Dee's Story
Ben Volman (he’ll always be “Charlie” to me) has had a far more interesting life than I, so please read his story. It’s fascinating, though I can’t imagine him saying anything that might now require an apology. I, however, should apologize that Patsy Leece and I once stole friendship rings from RiteWay (Towers) and that when we were lying on the gym floor and giggling, it was because we could see up the boys’ gym shorts. a result of the Kodak plant. It had always been a blue collar area and at the lower end of the income spectrum.. We were very lucky to have Miss Jack introduce us to cultural activities that we might not otherwise have enjoyed. Among my greatest childhood influences is Ruth Darling who used to babysit my brother’s and me. We learned so much from her and her sister, Connie, because they’d tell us about the books they’d read and movies they’d seen, and they’d sing us funny songs with lyrics that they’d created. I miss those days in Mount Dennis.
