Stephanie's Story
Life
steph_carson at yah00! My life in a nutshell, I've written the School, College and Work Bios, so here's what's left... Family has always stayed strong with me, my sisters and parents have always been there (XOXO). In 95, I got my new job teaching and moved to Emporia. My Yankee neighbor became interesting, Jon Feldman, and we quickly had a serious relationship. He mentioned he'd like to work on his own and I encouraged him. He started his own business in 96 in the Colonial Heights/ Petersburg area and we got a house up there in 98 and married in 2000. He found a mostly starved pit bull chow mix puppy in the woods in 98. She was feral but oh so cute! Our wild wolf Chardonnay is also an important part of our family. 2005 we had a son, quite a big addition! So, I enjoy genealogy, photography, internet, family, and bellydance these days. I've planned family reunions, so if you're looking for a class reunion, I'm one you can team up with c/o 88! Ciao!
School
I enjoyed school, but I wanted it on my own terms. HATED homework, hated to study, yet resented C's. Sixth grade was a turning point. I didn't want to do the work and they dropped me from Honors classes. I was really humiliated. The same year I asked a boy out and he laughed at me. Well, I realized then that I just did not rule the world, and I stopped fighting the system. I was put in all honors and I stayed at the bottom of the honors track. My Junior year I changed my mind and instead of Computer, I took Photography. This changed my focus, though I didn't know it yet. Went to ODU and the Honors Program there, expecting to major in Biology. *To be continued in College Bio*
College
So, a slightly insecure but hopeful girl went to college two hours from home at the beach! BIG changes! I wanted to do research on non-human intelligence (dolphins, mostly). Turn...Expand for more
s out there's a lot of homework and studying here, just WHY had I not learned that I did not like that? I again took an art class, for fun, Metalsmithing and Jewelry. I also partied like a mad dog. I had no past! I was free! I asked boys out and was not rejected this time! (Not often, anyway) My Freshman year ended and another chapter of my life too. My grades had slipped, and I realized art was where my temperment and talents lay. My boyfriend confessed his love for me too. So the rest of college had me focused on school, art, and a fiance. Course, we split near the end. But I had my degree in ART! Being a practical sort, I backed it up with education classes too. Ended up with a BS in Art Ed (K-12), a BS in Elem. Ed (NK-8) and a minor in English. Not 4 years, but 5 years and 3 summers, 210 credits! Yikes! I told you, I LIKED school, just not studying....
Workplace
I've been a teacher since 13, Girl Scouts had me leading events early on. In college I did a bit of catering and then was a secretary/ assistant for the Honors Program. Didn't find a teaching job right away, so was a portrait studio manager at K-mart for a couple years. Had a brief stint as a manager at Taco Bell, realized there ARE worse things than photographing screaming babies. In 95, taught high school art for three years. Loved the kids at Weldon, but the community either broke you or made you stronger... I left. In Hopewell, taught a class 4th then 5th grade, more great kids. Got what I thought I wanted, elementary art, at Prince George, even more great kids. I realized I just CANNOT deal with the adults! Hubby periodically told me to quit and work for him, in 2002 I did it. Land, Timber, and Log Homes: he does the outside work, I the inside. I love it. Check out my webpage! I DO use those art and education skills! Just not how I thought...
