Nancy's Story

Life I became interested in Dog Shows and Afghan Hounds after knowing a person that had an Afghan. I bought my first Afghan from a friend. Wanting to know more about Afghans, I joined a breeders club. I later purchased a female puppy from a breeder in New Jersey. With the help of a kennel in New York, she was able to get her title and become a champion. All my dogs are gone now and the only animal currently living in my house is a cat that adopted me. I dubbed him LeMew. I have always had an interest in geneology. My family is of Scots-Irish(Scottish by way of Ireland) and German descent largely. This was how I found my way into another passion. I joined The Mid Ohio Scottish Heritage Association. I attended a ceilidh and I was hooked on the dancing. I remember doing American Folk dancing in elementary school and how much I enjoyed it. Scottish Country dancing and Irish set dancing were the standards for our early folk dances. So, now I attend dance classes and workshops for Scottish Country dancing, Welsh Country dancing, Contra (revived form of American Folk) and occasionally Irish set dancing. t of high school I was involved with Civil War re-enactments. It was in the "60's" and the country was celebrating the Centennial of the Civil War. Who would have guessed that this was not a flash in the pan thing and that re-enactments would continue after the Centennial. Now you can re-enact almost any historial event. Well, I married the young man that got me interested in the Civil War re-enactments, George. We were together for about 10 years and then we got a disolution. I've done a lot of traveling but never enough. I always wanted to go to Scotland and Ireland because of may ancestors. I finally did go to Scotland in 1996 and 2000. The first trip, my friend and I spent chasing my ancestors across Scotland. It was great. I saw the places where they lived. In 2000, we also went to London and traveled by car to Wales and then on to Scotland. I haven't made it to Ireland yet but it is still something that I want to do. I have worked in telecommunications for the most of my life. I was downsized in my first job and layed off in my last job. I am currently working part time at a retail department store. Occasionally I will run into old friends that I used to work with. It is really nice to remember old times.
