Nancy's Story
After high school, I attended SVSU for a semester and decided I wasn't quite ready for college and moved to East Lansing. 1 year later I found myself back in school at LCC and earned my Associates in Accounting. Decided I wasn't done with school yet and needed more so I then found myself attending Ferris. After graduation with my BSB I moved back to Bay City for a couple of years. It was then that my life long best friend Judy Hall was living in North Carolina. She ended up introducing me to my now husband. Talk about not looking and being caught off guard.
Next thing I new I was moving to North Carolina. Went back to school again. Jobs were scarce. While waiting to get into my nursing program I ended up getting involved with the EMS world and entered a paramedic program while I was waiting for nursing school to start. (loved it - who would have thought) Eventually though I got tired of playing in the rain and climbing in and out of ditches so I finished my nursing degree and became an Emergency Department nurse. (I had found my home)I and was an ER nurse for 16 years.
After being married for 10 years, my husband and I were finally graced with the presence of our daughter. I can't believe it but she is 11. She continues to be my light and inspir...Expand for more
ation. Who knew kids could make defining what is important so easy.
I have been in NC now for 22 years and still call Bay City home. We try to travel back a least 1-2 times per year, but I will eventually have to call NC home. I still, however, cannot get used to the summers here.... SOOO Hot.. I can't believe I am saying this but I actually miss the snow.
Over the last 4 years I find myself having to travel back to Bay City every couple of months. To help with the care of my mom and dad (Passed in 2015). This age has certainly complicated life. This evolution of kids taking care of parents has been frustrating, enlightening and wondrous all at the same time. Thank God for friends / family and their support. My heart is ever grateful to Judy Hall and her family.
I recently found myself back in school again to take my nursing career into a different direction as I have unfortunately become burnt out and no longer finding the joy of direct patient care in this current profit focused vs patient care driven medical environment. Currently I am enrolled in a paralegal program in an effort to combine my love of nursing with the law. Eventually I will obtain my Legal Nursing Consulting Certification, opening a whole new phase of my professional life.
