Nancy's Story
Life
After many years of moving around the country, I'm finally settled in New Mexico with my (formerly) Navy husband. We have three children together, and we are grandparents six times over--four boys and two girls. I'm a retired legal assistant, and my husband is retired as well.. We do have a home woodworking and laser-engraving business that continues and keeps Hubby busy. Let me hear from you!
Workplace
After bouncing around from real estate to collection work, to a payroll clerk for the Navy, to electronics manufacturing and personnel work, purchasing and advertising and public relations, I landed in the legal field in early 1983. My first boss was a wonderful teacher and friend (unfortunately, he died in 2019). He paid my tuition to attend paralegal school--I hope he felt he got his money's worth. I dived into paralegal work with both feet and never looked back. I retired as of December 31, 2007, after almost 25 years in the legal field. It was a great career.
Military

nt husband was in the Navy also, retiring after giving 28 years to this country. And I worked for the Navy for 5 years as a military pay clerk in the late 60s and early 70s. Although I wasn't IN the Navy, I was a part of the Navy. My experience in being a part of the Navy community was great. I loved being a Navy wife--I felt that it sort of made me a different kind of person. There's an old saying that "It takes a lot of love to be a Navy wife." There's more truth to that than anyone can imagine. How many of you think that you could cope with keeping together a home, a family, a job, and other responsibilities while your husband is on a ship or in a submarine on the other side of the world for months at a time? The same things are happening today with our troops in Iraq, and I know what the wives and families are experiencing, because I've been there too. They have my utmost support and admiration.
I loved being a Navy wife--I suppose that since my husband is retired from the Navy, you could still consider me a Navy wife. After all, he still considers himself as Navy.
