Nanette's Story
Life
I am married with 3 kids, 23 y/o girl, Kimme, 9 y/o girl, Charlotte, and 8 y/o boy, Connor. We live about 30 minutes (City Talk) or 37 miles (Country Talk) south of Atlanta in Locust Grove, Georgia. We have lived here for 14 + years. My husband, Ken, is a pilot for XPresss Jets out of Atlanta. Pets? There's a cat that lives here that thinks he owns us. And the squirrels in the backyards and of course, the occasional armadillo - ah the memories of Texas.
College
I graduated in July 2005 with a BA Business - Management. I plan to return to get my degree in Web Development. When? I just haven't decided yet.
Workplace
I no longer work for Cingular Wireless the new AT&T, due to the beautiful thing they call 'downsizing'. I was laid off on December 1, 2007. I looked far and wide for another job until the State of Georgia Department of Education found me in August of 2008. I know work as a Help Desk Analyst Tier III assisting customers ranging from teachers to superintendents and anything you can possible think of in between with not only computer problems but with data collections and logging in to our Department of Education Portal and anything that has to do with our portal. But I am much happier now than I was before.
Military
I joined the Army in 1994 on a whim. I wasn't doing anything in life worthwhile. I selected a computer job. I went to Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri for Basic on 24 Feb. 1994 (coincidentally my son was born on that day in 2006). I really thought it was not as tough as I had prepared myself for. I could only do about 5 ...Expand for more
correct push-ups when I got there but when I graduated I could do about 50 + smiling and enjoying it. Then I went to AIT in Augusta, Georgia. My MOS was 74D which later was changed to 74B, combination of 74D and 74F. I graduated AIT top of my class in Sep. 1994. My first duty station was Ft. McPherson, Georgia. Might as well called it downtown Atlanta. I was not ready for this. I went from a boot wearing, rucksack carrying, soldier in basic and AIT to get out your Class B's cause that's all you really need at this post. You didn't see hardly anyone wearing BDU's or spit shining combat boots. I thought there was some kind of mistake. While at Ft. McPherson I worked for Forces Command (WWMCCS). After getting over the initial shock and a year later I met my husband, 3 months later we were married. We spent the first 6 months of our marriage geographically separated. He was stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington while I awaited transition paperwork. In May 1996 we finally got the finalized transition paperwork so that I could go to Ft. Lewis. My unit there was none other than ICORPS. I worked at the transition center while it was being built installing cables and computer systems. Then I was the help desk. There was only 2 people on the help desk. Then I moved to the EOC working on the Emergency Response System (Automated Call Out)and the GCCS (UNIX System). In March 1999 my time was up and I signed my paper work and got out. Moved back to Georgia, my husband was on orders. In June 1999 I got offered a job at Cingular Wireless now the New AT&T.
