Neil's Story

My wife and I both retired Sept. 19 2007 after both of us had worked for Wah Chang in Albany Oregon for 32.5 years. On Sept. 29, we sold the house and most everything in it and are now living in our 40 foot Monaco Diplomat motorhome. We have traveled to Arizona and Nevada since retiring and will be spending most of the summer on the Oregon-Washington coast and then leave at the end of the summer for Maine and work our way south and across the southern states to winter in Arizona. After 64 years of Oregon winters, I'm sick of being here in the rain, but will always come back for the summers. Sept. 2010. Seem all of 2008 disappeared on Classmates. We are off on new adventures again. Spent the summer seeing the kids and grandkids and friends. We left for N. Dakota to visit Shirley's family for a month after traveling through Glacier Nat. park. Stayed in Hungry Horse Montana. I spent some time doing some farming in Raleigh ND while the wife spent time with her sister. Found out I could never be a farmer. We are now in Rapid City, SD and heading to Branson, the Smokey Mountains, GA and then to Florida and the Keys for several months. So far we have visited about 36 states, Mexico and several islands of the Carribean in our travels. Been a while. We are still traveling and moved into a new coach in January of 2010. We now have a 42 Tiffin Phaeton motorhome and love it. This year we headed east to ND in late Aug. only to come back to Oregon for the passing of a relative then back to ND for the passing of an inlaws mother. Then we headed south to Texas to become Texans and escape the Oregon income tax. We met a wonderful couple in Montgomery TX and were planning on future travels with them until we found out that Paul was diagnosed with a massive tumor and given a max of 18 months to live. Not a good year with respect to friends and family, but we are back to traveling and will again spend the winter in Fl. It will probably be the last year for Florida for awhile as we are planning on seeing more of the SW next year. Still loving every minute of our lifestyle but miss friends and family back in Oregon and N. Dakota. May 12, 2011 We are on our way back to Oregon after spending the winter in Fl. again. If we ever get the urge to settle down in a house again ( probably never happen), ...Expand for more
we would love to settle on the Emerald Coast in Destin Fl. What a beautiful place on the gulf of Mexico. We are presently in Vernon TX for a night on the way back to ND, Washington and then back to Oregon for the summer. Oct. 5, 2011 Already tired of the rain here in Oregon, but sticking around for mom's 90th birthday the end of this month and then we will head out for another 10 months on the road. 1st to San Diego for a Marine boot camp graduation and then on to AZ and other south western states this year. We will probably miss being away from Fl. this year as we have met many great friends who live of the east coast, but we have already met up with a few here in Oregon this summer. Still enjoying living in the motor home and the travel. At this point we have no plans on settling in one place. Life on the road has been fantastic. We are both active and playing lots of Pickleball most every day and have maintained great health. Another cruise coming up the end of January. Mostly, more of the same for this next year. During the last few years we have been on the move after three weeks to a month in one area with the exception of coming back to Oregon for the summer. Last year we found Canyon Vista RV Resort in Gold Canyon AZ. We liked it, the people and activities so much that we will settle in for 5.5 months this winter. We'll see how being still for so long feels. I think we may get the itch to travel again. Still enjoying good health and an active lifestyle. This next year, Shirley and I will have been married for 25 years and will be doing a cruise tour to Alaska. Ran into an old school mate today just by chance at Canyon Vista's RV Resort in Gold Canyon. My wife and I were taking some dance lessons and I had my Ducks shirt on when a guy comes up and started talking to me about the game. I mentioned that I had lived in Portland until I got out of college and he noticed my name tag and asked if I went to Grant High. It turns out that it was Sid Cooper who has a place just south of Mesa and had come to our resort for the lesson. Small world! We are still rv'g, but decided to buy a park model in this great resort which we will stay in for maybe 6 months a year and then travel the other six. Way too hot here in the summer, but it sure is nice now. Don't miss the rain in Oregon.
