Nicholas's Story

Those of you who know me from Lake Central know that I was in Boys Town. Shortly after I turned 16 in 1978, My father remarried and "the powers that be" decided that I had a "stable" home environment to return to and I was yanked out of boys town and returned home to East Chicago. This was during my sophmore year at Lake Central and turned out to be a bad move. Enrolled at Roosevelt. It was good to reconnect with friends I had grown up with and went to school with at Harrison Elementary. It was good for a while. Donna Bach was my girlfriend. But I soon started getting into trouble and what followed was a string of incarcerations the most recent of which lasted 14 years. Actually, I'm still doing that one. I have 2 months left. I'm at a halfway house / work release place in Michigan City Indiana. Doing pretty good... Putting my life back together slowly. I've pretty much been incarcerated somewhere most of my adult life. Except for a 3 year run from July 1991 to July 1994. I was released in July 91 after serving 4 years for burglary. I entered into a relationship with Monica Ramirez from Hammond (Morton) and in June 1993 we had a son - Nicholas William Ross. They both live in Cleveland Ohio now. Was released from the halfway house July 24th. Living in Michigan City with my girlfriend Lori. Got a halfway decent job at a packaging factory, got a car, and things are going alright. Just keeping a low profile ...Expand for more
and staying out of trouble I have to admit that I'm "homesick" for East Chicago, but it would probably be a bad move to go back there. June 2010. Lori and I are no longer together. I left Michigan City in January to live with "new" girlfriend Dee here in Calumet City Illinois. The relationship is going GREAT. I couldn't ask for a better woman. I continued to work in Michigan City until May 7th. I QUIT SO I COULD CONCENTRATE on finding a job closer to Calumet City. The 102 mile daily commute back and forth to MC just got to be too much. Definately wasn't worth it for $7.50 an hour.. It was a hard decision to make though. (I't's not easy to get a job with a felony record) Dee supported me though. It took me three weeks for me to land another job! It's at Keystone Calumet Steel in Chicago heights Illinois (12 miles from the house). It's hard work, but I've got free dental & vision, health insurance, 401K plan, life insurance. Pay isn't the greatest, but I'm getting plenty of overtime. and there's definately advancement opportunities at this place. January 2011 Still with Dee and it's still great. Still at Keystone Calumet. Things are going good except for The Jets losing in the AFC Championship game this past Sunday. May 2011 Just finished my first week at my new welding job. Fabrication... It's what I love to do. Quit the job at Keystone Calumet to take this job. Still with Dee in Calumet City IL.
