Nora's Story

WOW - My story huh? I hate talking about myself, but here goes... after graduation I wasn't sure what to do, so I hung out some more, continued to party, and wonder what I was going to do! By 1984, I was attending Lakeland Community College (LCC) - for the first time! I did that and worked in the old Krogers, then Fazio's. I attended LCC from 84-86 - not realizing I needed to apply for an accounting certificate I had earned - I know - duh! So I never got it! It turned out even though I liked numbers - I didn't like accounting after all anyway! So I kept working in the grocery store until I got tired of that - then switched to factory work. (I also had stopped partying during all that and started thinking about health!) Quality and Inspection factory work to be exact! I worked at a few places, through temp services, then ended up at Apsco -when they were still in Mentor. I stayed there from, I think 1988 until 1991 - during that time, I had met and married (1989) my ex, we had a child (1990) and split up (1991) - so I left there. I went to CPI - and stayed there a short time - switching to other factory jobs - always in quality or inspection of some kind, as well as soldering, etc - then I went on to become a telephone operator at an answering service - then when I decided I needed to go back to school - I went back to CPI! I stayed at CPI from 1993 until I left in 2004. During that time I was a single mom and also a full time student. I attended LCC again 93-96, got my AS, then transferred to Notre Dame in S. Euclid - from 96-01 when I graduated with my BS - Yes I have a diploma to BS - (LOL) But seriously - I got my BS - major in Biology and minor in Chemistry - things I never even tried in high school - what a difference time makes! Although now I had graduated from college and still didn't know what to do with myself! I had planned on medical school but was too tired and knew my kid needed me - so I decided not to go. My professor/advisor suggested Teaching - I was surprised - but looked back at every job I had and in every single one, part of my job was teaching or training people to do the job - so I was always a teacher - who know? So I went back and got my license to teach - from Notre Dame - 01-03 - and did my student teaching in Eastlake. My license is for Life Science grades 7 -12. During this time I was also still working at CPI! I finally got a teaching jo...Expand for more
b and left CPI on August 13, 2004 - 11 years after I started there as a temp - leaving there as the Quality Assurance Auditor! I started teaching Science in 2004, - 4 school years - I was at the alternative school in Warren (WCS)- the kids that didn't make it at the regular high school - they were my kids, my students - some very tough ones and some that were just lost. When that building was closed I was transferred to a building that was housing parts of two-K-8 buildings. I taught there for 2-yrs. The first year I worked w/ 7th and 8th grade alternative students and 1-class of regular education 8th grade students (teaching all Science). The second year I had almost all of the 8th grade students for the two buildings. I also was the co-advisor for student council for 2-years and the advisor for the robotics club for 1-year, its first year in that building. For the 2010-2011 school year we opened the last two new buildings in WCS district. We then had four new K-8 buildings and one new high school. I taught regular education 7th and 8th grade Science for most of my day w/ one period of 8th grade alternative science for the first year in that building. After that, it was solely regular 7th and 8th grade science classes, with inclusion students and some other support classes or clubs throughout the day. While working full time, I went back to school - I took a variety of classes offered through the school district, then I attended Hiram and worked on my Masters degree (MAIS), but didn't quite finish. I made it through the final year of the program, and was at the stage where I developed my proposal for my final project in one semester and then complete the project in the 2nd semester. After a brief hiatus, I enrolled at Youngstown State University, in their accelerated MS Principal Licensure and Curriculum Development program. Again, I got through almost the entire program, and was at the last semester or two, and let life alter my focus. I continued to teach until 2017, my 14th school year, and left the profession to heal after surgery. I am currently working as a customer service representative, helping people, discussing their art and taking it one day at a time. I am a Reiki Master-Teacher and am certified in IET Angel Therapy. I sometimes think about finishing those 2 degrees and other avenues I may follow in the future. So...I guess that is my story - at least so far!
