Nora's Story
In 1972 I moved to Hawaii for two years, then North Carolina for a year then I moved to Pensacola Florida where I stayed for my four year apprenticeship in the electrical trade. After completion I caught my first job on the road, in Birmingham, building the pipe mill. From there I spent three years working in Agusta Ga. I left there and went to New Jersey (building a hi-rise) then a toyota plant in Lexington Ky. From there I returned to Al. to Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant Whew! That catches you up to 1987. I left the ferry and Worked the Saturn Plant in TN. I left there to work a nuke outage in MI. From there I worked a paper mill in Upstate Wa. about 50 miles south of the Canada line. eached 1991 Are you tired of traveling yet? I hope not because we still have a few adventures left. I left Longview and made my way back south to Chattanooga Tn. where I worked at Watts bar Nuclear Plant for two years. Well, traveling gets in your blood and that was too long on one job so I left there and went to Evensville IN. (another steel mill and another toyota plant) after those jobs Terre Haute had a shut down at a power house and then on to West Frankfort, Il. at a tire manufacturing plant. I left there and came back to Tennessee, where I had started to call home by then, and where I came to vacation between jobs. Well, Oak Ridge had a job at a steam plant so I got to stay at home and work for a change and it was prety nice. But the road was still there and the money was good in Oregon and Seattle so another trip across country it was. By the way, I dont bother with maps any more and I dont need a gps. The last trip across country was in 2000 when Bush got the job as president (Seattle's work dried up) and since then I have been working out of Oak Ridge and Tennessee is truly home!
