It¿s kind of Forrest Gumpish when you put it all together. - Graduate from North Branch with 1.8 gpa and no plans. - Start looking for some type of skill, any skill, but no one will hire me - Work in restaurant while trying to find a real job - Get excited that GM is hiring skilled trades apprentices. I apply along with then girlfriend Kelli. - Hear nothing for several months, get disappointed, continue looking for a skill and working in the restaurant. - See ad in Detroit Free Press for Chefs apprentices (skill!) - Apply for 3 year program at OCC, get accepted, move into grandmother¿s place in Waterford and get job with top chef in the state. - Kelli and I move in together - Learn a lot about cooking and start gaining popularity on the cooking scene while growing ever more tired of working weekends & holidays. - Kelli and I get married. - Kelli gets hired at GM. (she is incredibly lazy, I¿m working 60+ hours a week and taking 9 credit hours at college. Makes sense that she gets hired!??) - All of the sudden, we¿re 21 & 22 making nearly $100k a year. Life changes. - We move to Metamora and buy used Corvette on credit card. - I complete the apprenticeship, certified cook & associates degree and absolutely miserable. - Kelli and I have baby Jordan.
