Oliver A.'s Story
I am sure that I have posted the "story of my life" here previously but I will synopsize it once again. I was born and reared in Chas., SC. Left Burke High School to enter the Army. Received basic training in 1951 at Schofield Barracks, Honolulu, HI and eventually was part of the second Inchon, Korea landing during the Korean war. I was a combat infantryman in the Korean war from Aug 1951 to Jun 1952, surviving surprisingly, and eventually, after receiving my discharge from the army in 1954, entered MSU where I majored in Math and received my degree in 1959. I taught Math in the DC school system and eventually went to work as a mathematician for the Dept. of Defense, starting with the Naval Oceanographic Office and the last 21 years with HQ USAF at the Pentagon where I retired in April 1989. t but gave it all up around 1998. I married Thelma Moore MSU'58 in 1960, had two children, Oliver Jr.('62) and Monica (63). Thelma died in May 1995. My family lived in Washington, DC for most of our marriage. I now live in Hyattsville, MD and am restoring my DC house after many years of rental during which the house was destroyed. I expect to complete this lengthy project late 2009 or early 2010 after which I will return to Washington, DC and convert current residence to rental property. I have spent many years playing Bridge and Golf, visiting Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head yearly with a group of golfers over the last 30+ years. Fortunately I am in good health and am giving some thought to moving back to Charleston, SC sometime in the future where I can play golf year round. That is me in a nutshell.
