Olivia's Story
I'd probably say I was really, really shy and never spoke very much. I enjoyed my time at AHS, I had excellent teachers and some fond memories. I left AHS with a positive attitude about college and was able to succeed in my career.
Career:
I've received my doctorate degree in Molecular Biology studying cell division in Las Cruces NM at NMSU, studied DNA sequences involving chromosome segregation defects in Memphis, TN during my firs post doc position, then I went on to being a teaching/research post doc at UNM in Albuquerque. My research involved looking at a transcription factor important for proliferation and differentiation in hemopoetic stem cells and I taught an introductory to biology course at the local Native American community college (SIPI). Which helped me prepare for the next stage of my career, as a new biology assistant professor at the University of Hawaii - West Oahu. I LOVE my new position and although there are various challenges at mainly undergraduate college, I am determined to bring my enthusiasm for teaching and research to my new institution.

ids. Since I graduated I love to travel, one of my best memories is after graduating I went on a trip to Europe (with other AHS graduates)! It was great, loved seeing England, France, Switzerland, Austria and Germany. Since then I've been back to France, Amsterdam, various states in the US but my ultimate favorite place to vacation is Hawaii. My future career goal is possibly teach in Hawaii (I am currently doing this!!!) and strengthen all native courses especially in the sciences like biology, to introduce biology using more real world and cultural examples. Other than work I love to stay active and currently my exercise of choice is boxing and kickboxing. Challenging but I do love the way I feel afterward. And when I'm not kicking the bag, I'm usually hanging out with some friends for drinks or meeting up to catch a movie. The rest of my time is filled with watching various TV shows (too many to list), checking out movies, and reading books (sometimes more than one at once). So I am so grateful to have great friends, a wonderful supportive family, and a great job so I'm one happy lady :-)
