Ollie's Story

MY Life Upon competion of high school in 1978 as graduating junior I joined th USMC. I served 10yrs in the USMC. I got out on 27 Mar.1988, on a medical disharge, due to a 1,000lbs. (weights) falling on my knees when I was 19yrs. I went on to become a deputy sheriff for 9yrs,(going to college at night). I left law-enforcement and went into teaching. Presently I am a Special Education Teacher certified in both LD/ED. I am presently a History Teacher/Dept.Chair for DCPS. I am also in the Education Administration program at Trinity University in Washington, DC, whereas, I am pursuing a Masters in Administration. I was bestowed w/a Doctors of Humane Letters Degree in 2000, for my over 20yrs. of setting up programs for trouble youths, a Doctorate in Divinity, and in 2004 as of 7/15/02 and 6/04. Currently, I am a reciepient of a Masters in Special Education from Marymount University, and a Masters in the Religious Studies from the Fredrick Ray Bibical Institute, in Woodbridge, VA. I was chosen WHO'S WHO'S among noted Afro-Americans Educators 2004/09, respectively. I was lisenced to preach on April 17, 1999 and I was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel on 8/22/04. As of 10/10/04 I became Pastor/Founder of Bibleway Baptist Church of Woodbridge, VA. I am the proud father of three wonderful children :two sons (Joseph 23), (Ronald 22) and a daughter Mckenzie (17 yrs. old). School Graduated early, class of "78", I was a graduating junior. I went to Chickasaw Jr. High for summer school to take up twelve grade English, and I shortly joined the Marines. I ran track, (the 2 - mile relay). I also stayed in the advanced chorus - 10th thru 11th grade. I know you all will never forget Mr. Baskins. College I went to school at night and went to work during the day (Strayer University). I was initially crushed after being hurt in the military, but it turned out to be my meal ticket to college and a way of attaining my home. I then got the school system to pay for the other degrees as dues for a conditional teacher's contract. My goal is to become the first Afro-American School Superientendant in this area. Wish me well. Remember the bible says, "Ears have not heard, nor Eyes have not seen what the Lord has in store for Us". "Rememember to keep reaching for the SKY, and even if you don't make it you still will be among the STARS". Workplace Presently, I love to give HOPE, INSPIRE, and ENLIGHTEN our children for the future. I most graceously, and humblely accept all the ...Expand for more
responsibilities that falls within the scope of my job. I have been privledged to work with several celeberties in working with at-risk kids: One of them has been Mr. Stedman Graham (Oprah's-signficant other). Military I was in the delayed entry program. I went into the Marines. My entry time was Jan 78. I went into the Marines 2 Nov 78. I graduated 29 Jan 79. I have traveled extensively around the world. Some of the places that I have been priveledged to have traveled are: Japan, Norway, England, N.Africa, S. Africa, S. America, Korea, Italy, Portugal, Porta Rica, and varies bases thoughtout the country. I have made many friends and I tried to make my mark as a US Marine. I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a ok as an idea. As it turns out, they were right. my favorite is good olod-fashioned 'roller skating" If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have coffee, plenty of sleep, and a open-mind to be able to deal with the day-to-day. Jesus, MJK, and my Mom...they all endured trials and tribulations The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is track chorus buddies, because I felt totally at peace w/the folks. favorite team dallas cowboys and the TN titans If I could improve my home, I'd remodel whole house and add on a "real office". My dream home would be 100 x 1000 squate footage. How not to be like my parents..... If I won $100 million, I'd give 10% of it to my church, then spend the rest on helping the homeles, starting my own companies and the rest in investments. just life in Marine Corps Boot camp..people get on your nervres, but for the sake of the unit, you all pull it together My current age is 48. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be considered old. I was so completely WRONG!. to be bigger, and better than I was yesterday My friends in high school would tell you I'm crazy, koo koo, but people who know me very well would probably describe me as tought, strong willed and straight to the point. I do consider myself to be very classy, and sophicated..in no way dressing like a geek as I called myself in high school. I must say with much optimism, "thing havetrly changed". I share my home and life with family , which I find rewarding. And as for my accomplishments.. In 10 years, I hope to be my own boss, and running my own company as CEO, for at-risk youth throughout the US. I am going to get there by the grace of God. Where He leads me, I will follow.
