Osceola's Story
Life
I was born is Staten Island, NY in 1958 at the old Marine Hospital. I have 3 sisters--Theresa, Shirley and Andrea and a brother Steven. My dad was in the Coast Guard so we traveled a lot. We moved to Alaska for a short time, then we moved to Seattle. Went to San Pedro, California for a year and then back to NY. My mom was very strict and didn't let me go out. Bedtime was usually 9pm. My friends would be outside and I'd be in bed. I don't know why, I was a good kid. I was what you would call a nerd before computers were made. I embarrassed myself so many times in school! I always wore crazy looking clothes until my grandmother, Pearl Prysock (many of you knew her) bought some sharkskin pants and double knit shirts at the Farmer's Market for me my first year at IS 51! I spent about 8 years in Staten Island from the 4th grade until the 12th. I decided at 18 that I didn't want to be a prisoner any more at home, so I talked to a recruiter and a few months later I was in the Army! I went to Fort Dix for basic training and then to Aberdeen Proving Ground for AIT. My first duty stat...Expand for more
ion was Fort Riley Kansas in 1977. Shortly after arriving, I went to REFORGER (Return of Forces to Germany) and fell in love with the culture. After my tour at Fort Riley, I went to Stuttgart, Germany, and stayed there for 5 1/2 years--from 1980-1985. I did learn to speak the language well. I traveled all over Europe as a result of being close to so many countries.. I attended my 30 year reunion in Staten Island. It was nice seeing friends from elementary through high school there. It was so short though. I did not have the time to speak to all I wanted to. I have corresponded with some old friends and new ones. It really is exciting to correspond with someone you haven't seen in 35 years! I lived in Harbour Island, the Bahamas from June 2011 - April 2014 where I volunteered at a private school. I met wonderful people there. Now I am living in Lawrence, New Zealand since May 2014. I am a Kiwi! See one of the most beautiful countries in the entire world.
My oldest friend was Nora Sill. I haven't seen her since I was 6. We used to hang out together every day. She was a great friend.
