Pamela's Story
Life
It's true--I'm fat and happy. In 1996, I escaped Columbus to marry a man I met on the net, and we're now living happily ever after on Long Island.
In 2004, I stepped out of the corporate and nonprofit world to start my own business--I'm writing for a living and it's too much fun for words. I have clients all over the world, and I love what I do. I specialize in automotive issues, but also write lots of essays, often with a slightly acid slant.
Best of all, I get to do it from home, which means there's always a pot of soup bubbling on the stove. And I'm blessed with wonderful friends who love to gather round the table and indulge. Life is grand.
College
Would you believe I went to Ohio State to follow a boy I was ga-ga about? Silly 17 year old girls shouldn't be allowed to make life-altering decisions like that.
At any rate, a year after I started college I dropped out to work full-time. After five year...Expand for more
s of that struggle, I found myself knocking on the Buckeye door. This time, I had to juggle the fulltime career, the fulltime course schedule, a part-time job and my own tuition bills. Try surviving on 1-2 hours of sleep for 13 straight quarters. It's motivation to finish, that's for certain.
But finish I did, and I went on to do a series of graduate writing courses at OSU, leaving only when love called me to New York.
Workplace
Current spots: Guess who inherited the Brown love-to-work gene? Right now I'm Communications and Website Director for an automotive trade association by day, and in my snippets of free time, I'm still running my own business, Scarlet Communications Inc. My clients include beauty, health, business, and non-profit magazines, websites, and newsletters.
Previous positions: Communications Director for a national health-based non-profit, a bar association, and an international trade association
