Patty's Story
Life
Ok my life in 4000 words or less - here it goes. It started in New Canaan on Rural Drive with a move to 208 South Ave so Dad could have the space to convert a portion of the home to include his office. I spent some great years just playing with my friends and my brothers - games of hide/seek in the Bird Sanctuary, hanging out at Mead Park, on the hill in the field behind Saxe Jr High and many other locations. There were times spent at St Mark's for plays, choir practice and all the other activities Mom would sign us up for. As I got older (teen years) it was hanging out at Breslows, the Teen Center at NCHS on Friday nites,Baskins & Robbins or hanging out w/ friends.
Then the folks decided to move us to Charleston, SC - that stunk - middle of sophmore year - hated it then, but now I see that it was a good thing. Finished out high scool at Ashley Hall (private girl's school) and met some great friends that I still stay in touch with - not as much as I'd like, but we are still in touch. Charleston was great - beach, sand, sun, guys from the Citadel - good times and bad, but always there was something to do and someone to hang out with. Started my college career (such as it was) at the College of Charleston before moving to Little Rock, AR (folks had moved there in "77 and are still there).
In LR - I became involved with the Episcopal church once again - camp counselor, sunday school teacher and youth group advisor - the church community was a very important part of my life in my early 20's. I also went back to school at Univ of Arkansas at LR for a year then transferred up to the main campus in Fayetteville - shared digs with brother John and his friend Johnny. Had some fun - more than I should have my grades slipped... oops. Moved back to LR and worked for a short period and then moved to Stowe, VT to get away and help my brother Jeff and his wife with their baby, Erika, (who is now 28yrs old). Spent a couple of great years there and met my future...Expand for more
husband while living in Stowe. After a painful breakup with the man of my future I moved back to LR once again and was working at a day care center where my brother David was also employed. After a seperation of 10 months Brian realized he couldn't live w/o me (lol) he proposed and on a warm day in early July we tied the knot at Trinity Cathedral in LR. That was 23 years ago and life since then has been good and bad, but always eventful.
Now I am doing to my teenaged daughter, Allie, what my parents did to me - I am taking her away from her friends and school - her comfort zone - and moving her to a place so different from what she has been accustomed to. But she is much more level-headed than I was at that age and she is accepting of the move and I think on some level is really excited about it. My son, Arthur (8yrs) is excited and wants to open a Taco stand. He is a character to say the least.
So I guess the bottom line or the moral of my life to date is this... I may have had to face some demons and darkness in my 47 years, but I have been blessed with a man who loves me warts and all, a daughter who is so much more than I ever could have dreamt of and son who makes me laugh and smile even when I want to throttle him. I have also been blessed with a step-son who at age 30 has given me a beautiful daughter in law and grandson, who we do not see enough, but love greatly.
So now we will be starting a new chapter in the story of our lives - can't wait to see what it has to offer.
Life is a journey that I plan on enjoying no matter what I encounter - it is a philosphy that I have lived by and it has served me well so far.
So after reviewing what I wrote 2 years ago I realize an update is in order. My daughter, Allie, has graduated from Sandia HS and finished her 1st semester at NMSU (with a 3.857 GPA) and happy to be where she is. Arthur is settling into life in Abq and starting to really come into his own.
I am still thankful for this life!!
