Patrick's Story
Life
My partner and I live in Cary. I am General Counsel for a small business, he teaches special needs kids (which, he would add, qualifies him to deal with me at times).
My latest passion is flying, which I just took up a couple of years ago. We've been lucky enough to be able to afford a small airplane, and that has opened an entirely new world for me. 'Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth..."
My partner and I have no children, having vaciliated on the issue to the point where we now probably don't have the energy. In substitute we have three dogs and an African Grey Parrot, who thinks of himself as the head of the household rather than a pet. Unlike children, all four can be left alone for 9 hrs at a time and I can still come home to a house in one piece.
A lot of our time is spent in 'experiential' pursuits; flying, traveling, motorcycles (me more than him), shopping (him more than me) and entertaining.
We still keep in touch with some old...Expand for more
friends from our respective schools. For my part, my best friend dates all the way back to East campus. He is truly a soul mate, and although he and I don't get together as much as I want, he is a core part of my life and I have no idea what I'd do without him.
School
School.....what can I say. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Whatever it was, though, it was, and I'm over it.
I still have some really fond memories of high school and college, and of close friends who I wish were closer now, and people then whom I had wished (and wish to this day) were friends. I also have quite a few negative memories, but I can't say it was any worse for me than for most I know. Our past doesn't dictate our present, and so demands little note.
I did not attend my high school class reunion. That, I think, was a mistake. I would have liked to hear how others are doing these days. Maybe when the 20th reunion rolls around I'll be able to make it.
