Patti's Story

I just sent in my 4 yearbooks from 1965, 1966, 1967 and 1968 since Memory Lane didn't have any of those years. After high school graduation I prepared to go to Oregon State University. Although I had honors at entrance, grants and scholarships I found I was tired of school. My mother just arranged the whole thing even tho I never had a clue what I wanted to do or be in life. I had some head injuries before and after high school, major surgery the week after graduation and just wasn't prepared for college. Being at OSU was the best time in my life, but unfortunately my mother had cancer and I returned to Portland to care for the family. Then I met Keith. We were free spirits and divided our time between Colorado and Oregon and got married in 1974 in Vail Colorado when it was a quaint little ski town. I met such great people all my life and although I've been told over and over I was under educated and under employed I enjoyed my life. When some health problems began in the early 1980's and just kept getting worse I quit working and began taking care of my friends children and enjoyed that.. As I became less able to walk or even do child care I began spending a lot of time on the pc and phone doing volunteer work. I never imagined my life would turn out like this, but feel very fortunate in so many ways that I can't complain. My volunteer work first started with Portland Oregon POW/MIA's from Vietnam, helping Veterans get their claims better prepared, worked with families who lost someone in the military from non-combat deaths and also ran 11 yahoo groups for a dying friend for over 6 years. I kept busy and now things have settled down to a dull roar. It seemed like a fun time to look up more friends from school. I was able to find friends because of the CHS list Chris Nelson sent me and Pat Maxey sent me a copy of her Hosford 8th grade graduation booklet which I'd lost. Several classmates I found in the past somehow and a few I have been in contact with off and on since we firs...Expand for more
t met back in 2nd grade at Hosford Elementary School. Keith and I have been married for 37 years last March. I loved CO and never wanted to come back to Portland, but have been very happy making new friends and finding old friends here. Keith wanted to finish college where he'd put in 3 years already at Lewis & Clark College where he now coaches Cross Country and Track & Field. We really need recent photos! Our website is called Woodard's Way if you want to google it since they don't allow URL's here. If I don't respond when you write it's because I let my membership lapse. There is contact info on Woodards Way. My brother Mike Miller was in the CHS class of 1966 and sister Julie Miller was in the CHS class of 1971. Mike disappeared in 1990 with his crazy wife and I have no idea what's become of him. Julie and I are as close as ever and she has a wonderful big family. Genealogy over 20 years was so addicting until I got burned out, but really enjoyed finding so many interesting facts and making lots of friends who were distant cousins or people who helped me search. It's truly fascinating! I also did a great deal of photography. Colorado was the most amazing place to photograph- we hiked up into the mountains to hidden lakes, ghost towns, mining sites, cemeteries and so much more. Just the mountains themselves were the most amazing mother nature had to offer. I did miss the coast in Oregon for quite some time. I got to go to the beaches for many years after we returned here until I couldn't walk any more. I would really like a wheelchair with mountain bike kind of tires on it to still hike and go to the beach! Crafts were a favorite past time for so many years- I always had a lot of hobbies and interests. I never understood anyone who said they were bored! I always wished for much longer days so I could accomplish more. It's wonderful having so many friends and family to keep in contact with and the pc certainly made that much easier! Best of Luck to you!
