Paul's Story
Graduated from ASU in '69. Commissioned as a 2nd Lt, in the US Marine Corps. Married Nancy Paine, and while in TBS, Quantico, VA, we had our first son Dru.
Trained as an infantry officer, and then later as a Radio Relay Platoon Commander in 29 Palms, CA. Served with the First Marine Division as the Radio Relay PLT. Cmdr. in Viet Nam 1970-71. Re-assigned to 29 Palms, and we had son #2, Todd.
Riffed out of Active duty, stayed in the Corps (reserves), picked up Captain here in AZ, where I was teaching at Maricopa Technical Community College for 7 years, and started Impression Makers Printing, in Downtown Tempe. (47 years and counting, still love the smell of ink on paper!). Re-located the 'Plant' in 2008 to west Tempe, near Priest and University, encompassing 10,000 square feet, when a developer paid hard cash for my humble building in downtown. Good deal for me, he lost his shirt. Visit us at 1505 W. 10th Place, Tempe
Tara Shook Sessions and I got married in 1985 (Nancy and I divorced first), and we live in Tempe. She owns a local newspaper, is an Asst Professor at the University of Southern California & doing independent consulting and polling. Formerly taught at ASU, PhD in Publc Administration. Tara and I will celebrate her two year Heart Transplant (Mayo hospital) April 13th. Yes it was a bit of a task, and it continues.
Tara and I have traveled the world, and still come back to AZ for "home". China, Russia, Africa, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Fiji, Tahiti, India, Canary Islands, Costa Rica, Scotland, ...Expand for more
England, Solomon Islands, to name a few. Still love Tempe, Flagstaff, (and Fji)!
Two sons, Dru, a retired (20 years) Naval Aviator (USNA 1991)(now a Flight Simulator instructor at NAS Corpus Christi), and Todd (ASU 1994), a Phoenix Police Officer. Both married and are prolific. 8 Grand kids. Tara and I also helped raise her niece, Kimberly Kilcrease Gaziano. She's graduated Magna Cum Laude from ASU, Kim married Brett Gaziano and live next door to us in Tempe.
Dad, Milton, passed in the 80's but mom, Florence passed right before her 101st birthday. Thanks to both of them for helping me get to where I am now. And you too, Samuel Oscar Blanc! Grandfather Blanc (as mom called him, the original SOB) along with my father, during the Great Depression, started Roto-Rooter manufacturing and set up National Franchises. Dad got out as soon as he could and went back to the Weather Bureau, from which he retired, and eventually went to work for the WMO, in Geneva Switzerland.
I had two sisters growing up, Marge and Chris. Marge lives in Wisconsin now, works with Autistic children at her Clinic in Madison, and my younger sister passed after an unfortunate train accident.
Tara and I encourage "Donate Life" as part of all Drivers licensining. Tara is now celebrating into year #3 of a Heart Transplant at the Mayo Hospital in Phoenis. Issues of course, but glad to still wake up to her every morning.
I still run the Impression Makers Printing in Tempe, keeps me occupied and on my toes. Looking forward to a wonderful 2020!
