Paul's Story

Life CW4 PAUL A. CLARK Chief Warrant Officer Paul A. Clark began his military career as a Construction Mechanic with the United States Navy Mobile Construction Battalion (Seabees) in 1968. Serving with NMCB 62 in Dong, Republic of Vietnam. In 1970 he became the Enlisted Director of the Navy’s COMCBLANT Band, Davisville, Rhode Island. Upon release from the Navy in 1971, Mr. Clark studied at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona, earning a B.S. Degree in Music Education. For the next three years he taught music education in the Colorado Public Schools. He then reentered the military this time with United States Army and spent his next two years with the 9th Infantry Division as Director of the Soldiers’ Chorus. From 1978 to 1985 he served as Trumpet/French Horn player with the following organizations: 9th Infantry Division, Ft. Lewis, WA, 84th Army Band, Stuttgart, Germany, and the 101st Air Borne Air Assault Division, Ft. Campbell, KY. CW4 Clark received his Warrant Officer appointment in March 1985, and reported to Ft. Lewis, WA, in April of 85 to assume command of the 9th Infantry Division Band (MTZ). From July 89 to December 91 he commanded the Third Armored Division Band, Frankfurt, Germany, deploying to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq with the Division in support of Operation Desert Storm. In January 92 CW4 Clark assumed the command of the 36th Army Band, Ft. Huachuca, AZ. In July 97 he commanded the 2nd Infantry Division Band, Uijongbu, Korea. ntry Center, Ft. Benning, GA and to take command of the 283rd Army Band. His final assignment was at Head Quarters Forces Command, Atlanta, GA as the Staff Band Officer over seeing 72 Reserve and National Guard Bands and 8 Active Duty Division Bands. August 31, 2004 Chief Clark retired with over 30 years of military service. His awards include the Bronze Star, the Legion of Merit, six awards of the Meritorious Service Medal and five awards of the Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service and Campaign Medals, with Marine Corps Insignia, SW Asia Service and Campaign Medals and the Kuwait Liberation Medal. In 1983 he was selected VII Corps NCO of the Year and in 1988 he was selected as the Ft. Lewis Officer of the Year. His overseas service includes tours in Vietnam with the Navy Seabees and the Persian Gulf with the 3rd Armored Division. CW4 Clark civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Northern Arizona University and Graduate studies at Northern Arizona University, Golden Gate University, and the University of Arizona. Chief Clark is currently the Director of Bands and Tactical Officer at Valley Forge Military Academy and College, Wayne, PA. Military 30 years. 1st two were in Vietnam with the Navy Seabees 1968/69. The last 28+ 1975 to Sep 04 where with the Army Band as a commander and bandmaster. After the Army I took the position as Director of Bands at Valley Forge Military Academy and College. Currently I am retired Elizbethtown, KY close to Ft. Knox.
