Paul's Story

Life Hi all. After high school I basically just worked a few different jobs and partied my ass off. After about five years I began to re-evaluate my state of affairs. While job searching I stumbled across a Navy recruiter, and since I was already considering that as an option, I enlisted. Four years plus two more to cover my technical school, that being Under Sea Warfare, a.k.a. Sonar. I felt like I needed to get out in the world and see other cultures totally foriegn to what we have here in the states and that I need to do something that was important and mattered. I wanted to get stationed over seas but do to people dragging their feet I got stuck with the only thing that was still available, Everett, Washington onboard the Frigate USS FORD. I was not very enthused about spending my tour of duty in the US. I eventually got to visit, although briefly, some of the places over seas that I wanted to see such as Tokyo, Japan, Phuket, Thialand, and Australia between my two deployments with the FORD. I eventually learned that Everyone plays an important part in society, whether they be an executive, delivering mail, or flipping burgers. We all play a part in the larger sceme of things. I reenlisted for the bonus and to get off the ship early, which I blew later by extending for a year onboard to try, to switch my rate (job) which ultimately failed. Once my time was up on the FORD I lucked out for once and got stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawai'i. My job is cake and I get to spend lots of time with the fam. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention I got married on Sept. 24, 2001. She brought two sons to the relationship and since since then we have had two daughters. We also just celebrated our fifth aniversery. Anyway, Hawai...Expand for more
'i has been awsome. The jungle and mountain scenery is beautiful. The beaches are awsome of course. The kids love playing in the sand and the oh so blue ocean while I snorkel. The beach bunnies are nice to look at too. I will be getting out soon near the end of 2006 and going back to Baton Rouge, La. and I'm currently trying to track down old friends. I'm strongly considering going to school for massage therapy once I return. I think it's something I would be albe to do well and enjoy doing it as well. From what I can tell I wouldn't make bad money either. So that's a plus. Me being a family man and all now. There all lots of things I could do from all of my Navy training and experience but the idea of most of them makes my mind hurt with the idea of cubicles, and lots of stress for decent pay but I just don't think it would be worth it. I can handle extremely stressful situations for a time but I need a more mellow environment for day in and day out everyday buisiness. The point of living is to want to live, not to hate your life. If you hate what you do you will hate your life. School My biggest crush was on.....wouldn't you like to know. My favorite teacher(s) had to be Mr. Miller (history/current events) Because he was pretty inspiring and enthusiastic; Mrs. Grey (Art) because she taught me a lot about art (go figure) which helped me vent a lot of my teenage angst. "If I could go back and do it all again, would I?" Hell yeah, but only if I could retain all of the knowledge I have now. Then it might be worth it. Otherwise, who would want to go through all of that misery all over again? Sure there were a lot of good times and good friends but being a teenager can really suck most of the time.
