Paul's Story

Life Worked for TXU Electric in the north Texas area starting August 1978. Married in November of 1980. Graduated Tyler Jr. College in July 1981 with Assoc. of Applied Science degree. Daughter Amber was born August 1986. Bought a house Feb 1992 in DeSoto, a southern suburb of Dallas. Transferred to the competetive side of the electric metering business in July 2001, handling complex out-of-territory metering installations. Then TXU Energy had a financial meltdown and laid a bunch of us off in Feb 2003. One month later I went to work for MeterSmart in Arlington where we provided turnkey metering services to utilities and the energy-management industry. Retained an attorney and initiated divorce proceedings on April 5th 2007. Resigned from MeterSmart in July 2007 and took similar but better job with Elster Integrated Solutions, moved to Raleigh NC. Divorce was finally granted on April 23rd 2008 in Dallas. Lately I spend most of my time enjoying the single apartment life, unburdened with yardwork etc. I am continuing with non-fiction reading, recently including the Bible. I still tinker around with stereo equipment, and still into the progressive rock of the seventies. In March 2008 I was diagnosed with a stenotated aortal heart valve, and I underwent surgery to replace this valve with a mechanical one on May 20th at Conroe Regional Medical Center. My recovery was swift and uneventful, and I flew back to Raleigh in early June. Started bicycling again in July. August 2010 Update: Still with Elster Solutions; moved to Tallahassee FL. Summer temperature and humidity are much the same here as in Houston area. Will definitely enjoy winter here. Still traveling around the country frequen...Expand for more
tly. March 2011 Update: Resigned from Elster, took a new position with Vivint SmartGrid Solutions, moved back to Texas, to the northeast Austin area. Feb 2012: Then Vivint spun-off their SmartGrid division and so Waco-based TMD (Texas Meter & Device) took-on the City of Georgetown project and hired three of us to run it. I started dating in mid-2012. In November 2013 my one-and-only child Amber gave birth to my one-and-only granddaughter Savannah, residing in Johnson County near the D/FW metro area. After the City of Georgetown project was over in January 2014, I re-joined Elster and resumed traveling, working from my home office when I was not on a project site. Spent most of the year 2014 on a large project site centered in Rutland Vermont. Back in Texas for 2015, Dad passed away on January 25 after 3 weeks of hospitalization/hospice. I resumed dating in Sept 2015, but exclusively with one Chinese girlfriend. In 2016 Honeywell bought Elster so now I am working for a Huge worldwide corporation, for what it's worth. On September 28 2019 my long-term girlfriend and I got married in Conroe and bought a new house just north of Willis, then sold my Pflugerville house. Mom stopped driving around this year 2019 time-frame, so we moved her into our new house with us, setting aside 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom for her. Unfortunately, Mom passed away at the age of 86 on May 22 2022 after 3 weeks of hospital/hospice care. A few months later we started babysitting a couple of elementary-age kids from the neighborhood, which kind-of filled a void left by Mom's passing. I'm still traveling frequently for work these days; been in and out of IAH hundreds of times over the years. Preparing to retire in 2024 or 2025.
