Paul's Story

Life Well! What a quaint prospect. Telling one's life story to people with whom you once had an acquaintance eons ago. I have written an autobiography that covers the first forty years of my life and that, without photographs, is now in excess of 3600 typeset pages (12-point Times New Roman, single-spaced). My guess is that Classmates.com will not allow me to post that vast repository of trivia on its website. I once sent one of my volumenous documents to the mainframe at Purdue Univcersity and shut down the computer center for three days. I can sense the administrators wincing even as I type. Fot all who have any inkling as to who I am, I will submit to you that I have had a wonderful life thus far. After graduating from High School, I served my country for six years in the military. Afterwards I served my Church for two and one-half years in southern Mexico as a full-time missionary. I married after my return home, and have stayed married for nearly 38 years. We have 7 married children and 21 grandchildren, so far. I attended Brigham Young University as a Spanish Major-English Teaching Minor. I received my Master's Degree in English Language and Linguistics from the same Institution. After some Doctoral work at USC, I completed my degree at Purdue University in English Language and Literature. My dissertation was 3-volumes 1200 pages long (the very same document that shut down the computing center for three days). Since that time I have penned over 50 essays and 25 books on various topics, from the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien to the Epistles of Paul the Apostle. I have an Honorary Doctorate from the Tolkien Society of America for my work in creative linguistics.I have lectured throughout the United States, Canada, and England on the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien and ...Expand for more
related authors, together with a wide range of religious and theological topics. For 35 years I was a religious educator for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, teaching at various Seminaries and Institutes in Utah, California, Indiana, and New Mexico. I retired in August of 2004. I am a pubished essayist, poet, short story writer, and song writer. I play various stringed and woodwind instruments and have performed on stage since childhood. I have just completed a novel entitled "Emergence" as part of the NaNoWriMo competition for 2004. Although I have passed what might be termed the mid-point of my mortal sojourn upon the earth, I am not particularly melancholy. I have had a rich and fulfilling life thus far, and I expect to continue for some time yet. I have the occasional aches and pains of someone my age, but I feel that I am still able to be a productive citizen and friend. For those of you who were once my friends, know this, that I remember you fondly. I do not believe that I was an evil boy, but I did have my weaknesses, most of which, I am happy to say, I have put behind me. Those of you who have grown long in the tooth with me can probably say the same. I have not been one to attend reunions. Probably because I did not wish to have my illusions shattered. As a result, I have paid a high price in mutual affection that others have not had to pay. I suppose that I regret that choice, and in part, that is one of the reasons that I have condescended to write this little biography that can now be read, even by those who may have not considered themselves one of my friends. It is a wonderful thing to live in the tops of the mountains. I find the winter air bracing and the summer breezes refreshing. I think that I will stay here for a while.
