Paul's Story
Life
After school, I worked a few odd jobs until finally joining the military in 1983. While in the Navy,I spent time in Spain, Italy,Guam, and Puerto Rico on various deployments from my home base in Gulfport, Mississippi.
Upon my discharge in 1988, I returned home to Muskegon, where I became involved with a single mom whose children I now "claim" as my own; two boys , Matthew 18, and Justin 16. Even though their mother and I are no longer together, I still spend as much time with them as I can, and still consider them to be my sons.
I currently work in the woodworking feild as a cabinet maker for a small firm in Spring Lake.
I've recently decided I would like to re-establish contact with some old friends, and so here I am ,searching for long lost classmates.....anyone out there?
Military
I joined the Navy/Seabees as a heavy equipment mechanic in Feb. 1983. Upon completion of training, I returned to Muskegon as a reservist assigned to the Naval and Marine corp reserve center in Grand Rapids. After about 7 months I requested to return to active duty, and was assigned to Naval M...Expand for more
obile Construction Battalion 74, homeported in Gulfport, Mississippi. During my 4 years there I made three full deployments and one partial.
The first was a seven month stint in Rota, Spain, where I took advantage of the opportunity to travel around southern Spain. Following a return to homeport for 6 months, we then deployed to the Pacific island of Guam for 9 months, where I learned a great deal about our smallest and farthest territory. Guam is rich with the history of WWII, and was very educational. I made several very close friends there, one of whom I am currently making plans to visit (in North Carolina) as soon as possible, hopefully for memorial day.
After a return to MS,for another 6 months of training, we left for a 7 month stay in Sicily,Italy, where I was able to visit the active volcano at Mount Etna. Returning once again to MS, I began to ready myself for the impending discharge at the end of my enlistment, but not before making a one month trip to Puerto Rico.
I was honorably discharged in Oct. 1988 whereupon I returned to Muskegon, and have remained to this day.
