Paula's Story
Life
Currently living with my husband in Chapel Hill; Clinical Professor of Medicine at the UNC School of Medicine since 2002 with specialties in Women's Heart Disease and Cardiac Rehabilitation. I am retiring in June 2024. My husband is a retired attorney who was with Alexander, Miller, and Schupp in Chapel Hill. . We enjoy traveling, reading, fishing, outdoors, gardening and music. Latest long trips were to Viet Nam, Cambodia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Hawai’i ,Scotland and Alberta/British Columbia....love that travel.
My oldest son, Jackson (40) graduated from NCSU and worked with the Department of Public instruction in Business Policy until fall 2008. He graduated from the Sanford Institute of Public Policy at Duke University in May 2010 and now works for Insight Policy Research. He was married on September 28, 2013 to Elyse McCoy, a wonderful young woman. They round out their household with their 7 year old daughter Quinn Marie, their 2 year old daughter Chloe and their Beagle Cruz.. My youngest son Nathaniel (Nate)(37) graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2008, worked for INC Research for a year, spent 6 months in Africa (Botswana) working as an Emergency Room Technician. He graduated from Medical School at UNC in 2015. He is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine as well Regional Medical Director of Emergency Services at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.. I graduated from WG and went to Wake...hated it..transferred to UNCG. Attended UNC Medical School 79-83 and then returned to G'boro for residency at Moses Cone. Spent 30 months on active duty in the Air Force (??) and then back to Chapel Hill for Fellowship in Cardiology. Currently am a Clinical Professor at UNC School of Medicine and Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation, Director of Women's Heart Program and Director of the Advanced Cardiac Life Support Program for UNC Hospitals. Married 41 years to Steve Miller, a retired lawyer and we live in Chapel Hill. Spent a lot of time traveling in the Northwest, Canada, Europe, Asia and Central/South America until COVID. Headed back out in June 2022 to Alberta and Vancouver Island

I graduated Medical School in 1983, did my residency at Moses Cone 1983-1986 and was in the US Air Force 1986-1989. In 1989, I came back to UNC to a fellowship in Cardiology and finished in 1992. I have been affiliated with UNC School of Medicine since that time and I am currently an Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Dept. of Medicine/Cardiology and serve as Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation and Director of the Women's Heart Program. Also Co-director of the Cardiology clinic.

I served with the 347 Tactical Fighter Wing at Moody AFB in Valdosta Georgia in the Medical Corp - 1986-1989
