Paula Monell's Story
Life
After graduation, I worked for J. C. Penney, Bergners and finally the Secretary
of State. I met my husband at the 1970 Easton prom, but we did not meet up again until 2 years later. We married in 1972. We have two children. Jason is age 32 and Jaqui is 28. We have a dalmation named Dancer. He is 11 years old.
We have had him since he was three months old. I worked for a social service agency and my last employment was with the Department of Public Aid in the Bendex/Enumeration Unit where I processed applications for social security. I utilized a perkin-elmer, computer and searched microfiche. My working career was ended abruptly by a brain tumor. The seizures I used to have were caused by pressure. The surgery wentt well. I can function with some limitation. However, I will never return to work outside the home. I assist my sister in
taking care of my mother. Luckily, we moved 6 years ago. I now live across the street from her. Father died of a massive heart attack 12 years ago. I miss
my home off Farmingdale Road. I would like to buy it. Cindy Atkinson Kinner knows the current owner. She has promised to let me know when it goes on the
market. I miss all of my old friends at Plains. Don and i have now been married for 33 years. On our 30th, we celebrated in the Bahamas. I earned this trip
through Mary Kay. I don't know where we will go on our 35th. Currently, we are remodeling our home. We have a townhouse in the Fallingbrook Area. I enjoy history, nature, and music. I used to sing in choirs and do solo
performances for many years, but haven't sung much except at church or just
around the house. I had professional voice training under Karl Lundberg. He was
a former music teacher at Springfield High as well as being the founder of the Municip...Expand for more
al Choir. He also had a hand in the beginning of the Muni Opera. Don and
I don't socialize much except at church. We would welcome old friends anytime.
Don is a graduate of Havana High, class of 69. He also attended Monmouth College and Sangamon State. He is a former Systems Analyst for the
Department of Corrections. I attended Lincoln Land and majored in Business
Management. I am short 9 credit hours for my associate degree. For four years,
I worked publicity for my church. I try to keep feeling useful. My husband now
works on the church board. He was diagnosed with colon cancer last year. The
past two years with his health has been difficult for me. I keep in constant prayer. We are still waiting for grandchildren. I used to garden quite alot, but now I only do it on a smaller scale. Don and i are still Amway/Quixtar represent-
atives. I am trained in color and makeup, but I don't find much interest in this area. I used to want to become a professional personal buyer, but only larger cities seem to appreciate this service. That's ok since i keep busy with mother.
I have tried to keep abreast of my neighbors and some of plains classmates. Our
1970 35th reunion was quite depressing. Only Tom Garrett and I were there, but Mrs. Sommers joined us and updated us on many of our classmates. Heard Mrs. Humphries and Mr. Baird died. They were two of my favorite teachers. Saw Miss Devlin at the reunion. She hasn't changed. My children are so special
to me. Jason is a carpenter with local 16. It's so nice to have a carpenter in
the family. Jason is following tradition since my family in Germany were all
craftsmen. Jacqui works for American General. She was recently promoted.
She also is newly married. All old friends/classmates are welcome. Just drop by
