were also many sing-a-longs with resident involvement. I left when my mother died in 1996. After a brief respite I taught English to new immigrants and refugees in the resettlement program from 2000 to 2010. The program was coordinated by Guilford Technical Community
College and Lutheran Family Services. I am a first generation American of German immigrants of whom I am very proud. My parents and I are Evangelical Lutherans. Our church in Chicago was Woodlawn Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. My parents were married there, I was baptized and confirmed there and sang in three choirs. Dr. Paulus was the pastor at that time and the church was a very important part of our lives. I was also active in the Luther League. I left at age 17 to go to college. The church died in the 1970's due to increasing crime in the Woodlawn community but not before it impacted the lives of many of its parishioners. My teaching experience also includes one year in Max Planck Gymnasium and Hoelderlin Pro-Gymnasium.iin Nurtingen Germany. The Gymnasium is a high school that prepares students ages10-21 to enter professions in the university. I am bi-lingual German/English. In 1970 I took my parents back to their hometown to see living relatives. I met my family for the first time. I had not known them for thirty years and the connection was the highlight of my life. I remain in contact to this day and have also gone back six times for visits. My younger cousins are on Facebook and email me all the time. This connection is helping to make my retirement a happy one. When I was younger I also did Easter Seal Camping and four years of camp counseling in northern Wisconsin. I have had an exciting, worthwhile life. I believe that with God's help and support of parents, church family and friends I have been able to make a difference. Giving is what makes for a happy and
productive life. Thank you for allowing me to share with you.
