Peggy's Story

Life Well, here i am... still. Still in Victoria, B.C. Still come home to my shack at the beach in Tidnish in the summer -- usually 5 - 6 months lately (May/June - Oct/Nov). Still planning to retire there eventually -- somewhere between Moncton & Truro i'm thinkin'. It'll be a big decision to leave my kids but still really considering it... If they had left it would have made the decision easier for me. Both are out on their own now but still on Vancouver Island. Retired in '07 after 30+ years with Revenue Canada (and its various name changes). Took a part time course at Camosun College -- until the end of May '08 -- Community Mental Health Worker... Then after my summer "home" i took the Home Support/Resident Care Attendant program at Camosun from '08 - '09. Not that i really plan to do that kind of work but it's the prerequisite for the Activity Assistant course -- which was offered again in 2010. I quite like my casual position in the mental health field... but the old folks are great too. And i have another part-time, on-call job in the security business. I spend waaayy too much time playing Spider on the computer... I don't do housework so perhaps you can imagine the mess after 42 years in the same little house... [My ex was a great housekeeper!... but he left years ago. The man in my next long-term relationship was a great cook but not much of a housekeeper...] I've been single for almost 20 years now and loving it. I do have a dog though. (There's nothing better than a dog for unconditional love.) My favourite pasttime (besides my many jobs) is dancing. Mostly East Coast Swing (Jive), Cha Cha, Waltz... (some West Coast Swing but not much...) I'll never get past Beginner or Intermediate with my tin ear and 2 left feet but i'm having much too much fun taking classes and going out to dance at the Legion. That --> dancing <-- will be another big thing to miss when i move Down East... and my friends from the dance community. Rukus is a great old time Rock 'n' Roll band -- i'll miss them too. {[2020/2021 Updates: * no dancing with covid... and Rukus broke up too (after almost 30 years) but they've regrouped and Late Shift is just as good (or even better) than Rukus... Not much outdoor dancing here other than during the summer... * i thought i'd settled on moving to Moncton when the time comes -- which isn't yet but aaaawful tempting... Anybody want to share a house? Pre...Expand for more
ferably a big, old house? I don't want to look after a house so i'm thinkin' it'll be "retirement living" for me... And no, i can't winterize my cottage -- it would lose all its charm and besides it's kinda inaccessible for most of the winter... * my son has been working on the mainland (Vancouver and surrounding area) for most of the last 3 years, and will be for at least 2 more coming up, and then 3 more if they get the next part of the condo project. He's a bricklayer... Heavy duty mostly, but also does rock work on the side... Even though his home is based in Parksville just 148 kms up-island from Victoria (that's 92 miles if you're still converting) i don't see him much... Love him bunches from a distance though! My daughter and her family (husband, dog, cat, and kid -- not in that order) are selling their house here and moving to.... You'll never guess: Nova Scotia!!! And she was the one who said: "Youuuu cannnn't goooo!" (pronounced "go", not "goo") when i said yearrrrrs ago that my plan was to retire back there. * that's about it... -- with being lucky enough to still have work, i'm not "isolated" like many people due to covid... -- with no dancing i do play some different Solitaire games: not just Spider, but also Forty Thieves, Klondike, Pyramid, and TriPeaks. I have colouring books but not used them, yet. I have done a bit of colouring on my phone though just recently... That's different... And of course there's more time to read. "Back in the day" it was mostly self-help books that i was interested in. Bought many, and didn't have time to read, so now they're way out of date. But i've discovered, well years ago now actually, i like novels. Maeve Binchy was my favourite but she's gone now. I've discovered Rosamunde Pilcher... Margaret Atwood... Penny Vincenzi... lots of local interest stuff... of course dog stuff... Never mind this could go on forever]} I love to travel... i love to eat... i don't watch much TV... I used to have the radio on all the time but not so much any more -- except in the car... I've found i quite enjoy the quiet... I love the beach but you wouldn't believe how cold the water is here! Lucky for me that i have my shack at the beach in NS. Actually, i consider myself to be "bi-coastal" -- i have 2 distinct lives -- one on each coast. I like to read, do Sudoku and crossword puzzles, go for coffee at Tim's. Well, i guess that's about it...

Lunch. So many restaurants, so little time.
Recognize this tree trunk Pat Patrick O'Neill?
From between Caldwell's and Eva's...
Next door to my lot...
Even the ferns were blown down -- on the far side of my place.
Slightest. Scary but okay.
My car is at home. Fred limbed this one enough to get out. Should I move mine? Or maybe be stuck for a few days? Both have advantages...
There's a candle too.
Happy Mother's Day to me.
Steps almost made it. If I had been smart enough to get up the bottom half they might have lived. Perry's living room flooded.
Lovin' the good life -- great life actually! Isolating in NS is fantastic! Especially with such good neighbours and friends: Thanks Rhonda Perry for a delicious fish dinner -- fried clams and bass (?) and potatoes, baby c
Poor me (NOT). Isolation isn't bad at all.
Hola from sunny Mazatlan.
Hey look... I had a mother too!
I like this soooo much! Thanks Cody Cotopotoco
Whatever fits...
and Happy Mothers' Day to the Mr Moms too: Bill O'Neill, Steve Hummell, Dan Murphy
Wasn't that just a fabulous day! Let's make it a point to do a day like that next summer. Not necessarily the airport part-- but that would be fine too.
