Penny's Story
Life
After graduating from Eldorado, I went to the University of New Mexico where I majored in Journalism and minored in Criminology. I received my BA in 1985.
The commander of the New Mexico Army National Guard's Public Affairs unit contacted me shortly after graduation offering me the opportunity to go to the Defense Information School (military journalism school) if I could pass the audition. I passed, then spent six years in the New Mexico Army National Guard. In addition to being the Assistant Editor of the NM National Guard's newspaper, "The Minuteman", I went to Panama and Honduras where I filed several television news reports for the Southern Command Network on t...Expand for more
he US Military building farm-to-market roads in Honduras.
As a civilian, I was the News Director for KBCQ/KCKN Radio in Roswell.
I later went to work for the New Mexico Department of Corrections as a casemanager.
I met my husband in the National Guard. We married in 1991 and have three children: Keith, 12, Kyle, 10, and Claire, 6.
When my first child was born, I became a full-time, stay-at-home mom. I home-schooled my two oldest children for about two years.
Once all of my children were in school, I went to work for Kiddie Kandids Portrait Studio. My company transferred me to Sugar Land, TX (just south of Houston) to open a new studio.
