Pete's Story
In 1985 he enlisted in the United States Army where he served as an Infantryman (11B) with the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Benning, Georgia, and Special Forces Weapons Sergeant (18B) with the 12th Special Forces Group at Fort Lewis, Washington, and eventually attained the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6). On completion of his enlisted service, he decided to further his education and accept a ROTC scholarship at Washington State University where he graduated Cum Laude and Distinguished Military Graduate with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. In May 1994, he re-entered active duty at Fort Rucker, Alabama, where he completed the Aviation Officer Basic Course (Distinguished Honor Graduate), Initial Entry Rotary Wing Course, the Scout Platoon Leaders Course at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and the OH-58D(I) Advanced Qualification Course.
In October 1995, LTC Tingstrom was assigned to Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he served as a Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, and Battalion S-1 with the 1st Battalion (Attack), 82d Aviation Regiment, 82d Airborne Division. In July 1998, he attended the Armor Officer Advanced Course at Fort Knox, Kentucky, followed by the Combined Arms Services Staff School at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
In March 1999, LTC Tingstrom was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Carson, Colorado. He initially served as the assistant S-3 before serving as the Squadron S-4. As the Squadron S-4, he deployed the Squadron to Fort Hood, Texas, Fort Rucker, Alabama, Fort Polk, Louisiana, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and multiple NTC and Pinon Canyon rotations. He took command of Pegasus Troop in December of 2000. He deployed his troop to the National Training Center and multiple field training exercises. He was selected as a General Douglas MacArthur Leadership award.
In April 2002, LTC Tingstrom was assigned to a Special Missions Unit where he served as the Deputy Operations Officer and Executive Officer. During this period he completed the UH-60A Advanced Qualification Course, and did numerous deployments in support of the GWOT to both Afghanistan and Iraq.
In July 2006, LTC Tingstrom attended the Naval College of Command and Staff at the Naval War College in Newport, RI where he earned his Masters Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies.
In July 2007, LTC Tingstrom moved back to Fort Bragg where he first served as a Plans Officer, graduated from the Fixed Wing Multi-Engine Qualification Course and a CASA 212 aircr...Expand for more
aft transition, and then in 2008 served as the Chief or Operations for the Special Operations Aviation Directorate at U.S. Army Special Operations Command.
In June 2010, LTC Tingstrom was selected to serve as the Air Operations officer for Special Missions Unit at Fort Bragg, NC. Here he deployed again to Iraq and Afghanistan.
In June 2012, LTC Tingstrom moved to Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii to serve in Special Operations Command - Pacific where he served as the Special Operations Liaison Element (SOLE), Chief of Staff of the Joint Special Operations Task Force Philippines (JSOTF-P) as part of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM - Philippines, the Southeast Asia Regional Engagement Branch Chief, and as the Chief of Current Operations.
In July 2015, LTC Tingstrom moved back to Fort Bragg, NC where he served as the Director of the Joint Air Operations Center at Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC).
LTC Tingstrom's awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (with two Oak Leaf Clusters), Defense Meritorious Service Medal (with two Oak Leaf Clusters), Meritorious Service Medal (with one Oak Leaf Cluster), Joint Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (with four Oak Leaf Clusters), Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Philippines Civil Action Medal, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon (with numeral two device), the Army Service Ribbon, and the NATO Service Medal. He has also earned the Combat Action Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, the Army Master Aviator Badge, the Master Parachutist Badge, Royal Netherlands, German, Australia, Thailand, Polish, Uruguay, Pakistani, Canadian, and Irish Parachutist Wings, Air-Assault Badge, Special Forces Tab and the Ranger Tab.
Pete retired from the military in 2016 and currently resides in Kaneohe, Hawaii (Island of Oahu). He works as Contract Labor On Call Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII), work on TV shows and movies, and is the President of a Wedding/Event venue/business.
Pete is the son of Raymond and Ellie Tingstrom who currently reside in Colorado Springs, CO. He has a 24 year old daughter, Sarah Nicole. He is currently married to the former Gina Gatanis.
