Peter's Story
After DNHS, I went to College of the Redwoods for a year to study music (jazz) before realizing people far more talented than I was were spending their lives playing in smoky dives, which was not what I had in mind. After a year as a Russian language major, I settled on Computer Science and graduated in 1980 from Oregon State in Corvallis, OR, with a BS Computer Science.
I moved to Silicon Valley after graduation, where I met and married Cindy while at my first job out of college (42nd anniversary in June 2023!). I worked for several software companies (see my LinkedIn for details) before moving to the Portland, OR, area. Two sons later, we moved to the Seattle, WA, area when I joined Microsoft. Cindy was a teacher before our kids were born; after that, she was a stay-at-home mom. When the kids got older, she started a math tutoring business.

world in the process - Buenos Aires, Argentina; Budapest, Hungary; Bocas del Toro, Panama; someplace in Poland I can’t spell. He’s now COO of a company in Austin, TX.
The other son loved school. He missed being a National Merit Scholar by 1 point and graduated from Arizona State University with three degrees (?!?!!): BS Biochemistry, BS Physical Anthropology, and BA Classical Studies (Latin), plus an Undergraduate Certificate in Medieval and Renaissance Studies. He taught Latin in private schools for several years and is now a senior faculty lead at an online tutoring company.
After working for several other companies and 38 years in high tech, I was laid off in 2018 and discovered that at 61, no one in high tech would hire me – a sudden and unexpected retirement. We sold our house in Seattle and moved to the Tucson, AZ, area near our son, his wife, and our adorable granddaughter.
We’re retired in Arizona – how cliché! I sure miss the green of Crescent City, Portland, and Seattle.
