Peter's Story
January 30, 202 my account ends. So I won't be renewing. It's just not worth it. There's hardly anyone on here. But just keep track of me on BrightonPete dot Wordpress dot com. I used it mainly for when I was up north. I'm trying to expand it so hopefully when I go, it will live on beyond! That won't be for some time though (that I go!)
September 2019 was busier for me than usual. Being put off travelling bu being in the military my entire career (I travelled too much with them!), I finally got out for a long weekend. The Canada Army Run was on September 21, and I thought that I wasn't going to travel 300 k's to walk 5k's! They were offering an "Ill. Injured and Disabled" ½ marathon! Well then! I signed up. Found a fantastic B&B since I don't know anyone up there & set off. This would be my second "race" ever, the first being a 5k Fun Run in Oshawa. That was the final exam of a Whitby Running Room "Learn to Run" clinic. Except instead of running, I'd be walking with a...Expand for more
walker. I thought I'd be walking with a bunch of gimps, but I was the only gimp in the crowd of the corral I was assigned to. I figured on 3-½-4 hours, but managed it in 3h 5m 11s! It was a fast pace all the way though. And I survived.
It was a great, very well organized race. I was so impressed, I have already signed up for next years event in the Commander's Challenge. That's a 5k at 8AM and the 3½ marathon at 9.30AM. It should be a great time. I'll have to book the same B&B again also. If anyone wants to donate too Soldier On, a great cause... check army run dot ca and donate on my donor page. Many thanks for those that do!
I also am involved in the Nature Conservancy of Canada. I spent yesterday in the rain (well ½ the day) chopping down buckthorns & lilacs in the far reaches of Prince Edward County. And... I get to do it all again, but just a 5-10 minute drive from where I live tomorrow. That's another organization that is doing a lot of good all across Canada!
