Phil's Story
Life
Married (Cora Raver), 4 Kids (Neva, 37; Andrenne, 34; William, 31; Timothy, 29). Plant Engineer and Maintenance Manager, Doumak, Inc. - We make marshmallows for private label distributors (store brands). BSEE 1982 - Ohio State Univ. MBA 1998 - University of Phoenix. Past Master, Avery Lodge 493 (Hilliard, OH), F&AM, 1989.
I dabble in music writing and web page development, but I really enjoy genealogy. I get back to Hilliard a couple times/year, since my brother and his wife both teach in Hilliard, and Cora's parents still live there. We are in Streamwood (NW Chicago suburbs), and hopefully won't be going any further west. Having a college freshman now and surviving her senior year, I am amazed at what I must have put my parents through, not to mention everyone else who had to put up with my many escapades!
School
My high school days were a montage of getting out of class for various extracurricular things, being in the social swim for the band/chorus/drama types, being a techie, but avoiding a true "nerd" label, and getting around as many minor rules as possible.
Looking back, I think I tied myself romantically far too much to one person, though she was a great girl then and is a successful, great lady now. I also tried to avoid the "top grades/bookworm" label to the point that it basically destroyed my college career.
Overall, my high school days were a time in my life that I enjoyed to the hilt, and even today, would probably only make a few minor adjustments to.
College

ilures and disappointments for me. I started with a full-ride academic scholarship; within two years I had lost that scholarship and had to work to support myself. I survived mainly because of the good graces of a family that took me in, essentially making me part of their family and giving me a place to live. I would never have finished college in any form without them.
Once again, my romantic side played heavily in my downfall, as I connected myself with one person and didn't try to grow as my own person. Today, she is a successful vet in the northeast with a wonderful family.
I never studied, lived on past laurels, partied far too much, and barely passed most courses unless I found them personally interesting.
I pledged a frat, which was a huge mistake. I had not the money, time, or need for such an organization. There were a few great guys there, but the vast majority of them I wouldn't even walk across the street to spit on.
One of the few true successes I had was succeeding in making the OSU Marching Band for four years. Essentially all the friends I have from college came from that group.
I did graduate, but with a knowledge level far below that which I was capable. College is a time I would change in major ways if I could.
Workplace
This is a bio of constant change; in my case, my career has been controlled by the economy and the decisions of distant corporate boards. I have enjoyed many of the people I have worked with, but due to the change factor, I find that I do not connect with them at all socially.
