Phyllis's Story
Life
For 34.5 years I taught in Wayne County, WV. The first 18 years were at East Lynn Elementary and East Lynn Middle Schools. I taught grades 2-4 for 8 years and during the remaining years of my teaching career I taught grades 6-8. I taught reading, writing, spelling, and English. During the last 16 years of my teaching career I was a teacher at Wayne Middle School.
I have been retired from teaching going on two years and live in Wayne, WV with my husband, Bill, and our Boston Terrier, Toby. I have a step-son who lives in Michigan with his wife Jeni, and they are expecting their first child - a daughter! Bill retired a year ago, and we have been enjoying the retired life immensely. My plans for retirement have included helping with my mother (who is 88 years old and recovering from a heart-attack and stroke) and working on crafts - crocheting, beading, quilting and even working on writing poetry. I might add that I have joined the "blog" craze. We have a blog so our family and friends can keep up with us through the year! I am also working on scanning family pictures so that I can fix up a "picture album" of the generations past and present for my niece...Expand for more
s and nephews. It is time consuming, but it brings back so many precious memories.
I do miss teaching but not all the paper work required of teachers today.
Bill and I have benn able to attend many concerts which have included Bob Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, George Jones, Celti Woman, and Celtic Thunder, as well as being able to see Romeo and Juliet, The Lord of the Dance, and several minor league ballgames! I have really taken an interest in Celtic music - particularly the Celtic Woman. We also love to go see his beloved Cincinnati Reds - win or lose, they will always be his team! Maybe we will be able to go to another World Series as we did in 1990! Hopefully our health will allow us to do things we didn't have time to do when working!
I can now say that our granddaughter has arrived - Cora Ann Hardin was born March 27. She is beautiful and has captured our hearts. The only sad thing is that we don't live close enough to her!!! As of this update, she and her parents live in MI with the possibility of moving. Hopefully her daddy will find a church to pastor a little closer to us! :) Grandchildren are wonderful and meant to be spoiled!!!! :):):):)
