Po's Story

Life After high school, I got scholarships and went to UCLA for undergrad (majoring in World Arts&Cultures with concentration in Premedicine). I graduated in 1993 with Summa Cum Laude and numerous honors (Dean's honors, Phi Beta Kappa, University Honors). For the next two years I was a social worker (out of youthful idealism) and worked with at-risk kids in the San Gabriel Valley. I ran United Way afterschool projects for teens and health advocacy and education programs for immigrants. In 1995, I was accepted to all the UC law schools that I applied for (couldn't afford to apply to private schools). Naturally, I picked the crown jewel of the system: Berkeley (also a top 10 law school). The 3 ...Expand for more
years I spent in law school were enlightening, with the result that I became more spiritual (not religious) and less worldly. With a JD, I also came to hate the practice of law. I guess I used the analytical tools they teach to look at life and not for the purposes for which they were intended. After graduating law school, I worked for pittance at HP as a software tester. Six painful months later, I was a product engineer at Epson, where I stayed for only one year before finding a more fulfilling job at Kodak. I left Kodak 2 years later to pursue an MBA. By this time I got married. My son was born after I graduated. My daughter would be born about 2 years later. Currently, I work in Irvine.
