R. David's Story

If you happen by this way ... please sign my 'guestbook' ... it's always a bright point in my days whenever I have a chance to remember my friends and colleagues. My life is a work in progress. I have had some fascinating, wonderful, terrifying and historical experiences, and survived them all so far. But some day will be my last day. Nothing morbid in this thought; I look forward to life eternal with our Creator. I didn't get to pick my birthday, and I won't have much say in my last day, so while I can say anything, here's what I'd like to share of my life: I have been gifted to have known and have been taught, mentored, befriended and accepted by so many truly great human beings, some of whom have managed to remain my friends despite my occasional, rather disappointing moments and regrettable choices. I have fewer of both of the latter these days, thank Heavens ... and you for sticking by me at my worst. To all who have ever been kind or caring, I am ever and deeply grateful: you may barely be able to imagine how much I remember of the generosity of so many of you. To all whom I ever hurt or maligned, I wish I had not. I carry the weight of those failures with me. I am sorry. I've learned to be a better person, but regret not having done so sooner in life. I hope you found far better places, friends and situations. You deserve only the best. To all who have harmed me in whatever way, free yourself of the memory of that moment and accept this: we are all imperfect and yet most of us are worthy of forgiveness. I forgive you and wish you well. Really. To all who know or have known me: Live well, long, and imaginatively. One day ... some day, the 'light at the end of the tunnel' will be The Light. Embrace that idea about "paying forward." It has been not only inspirational and transformative for me, but truly does bring greater joy and satisfaction to all who practice it than any can anticipate. Sometimes, it just bowls me over! To my family, my children and those few friends with whom I have shared the journey and with whom I have reconnected, thank you for your understanding, love, simple kindness and for giving me daily reasons for living and striving to be a better person ... I love you all more than I...Expand for more
have the competency to express! I hope this is enough of my 'story' for those who lived in the center of my life at one time or another. For those who lived on its edges, all that you take from these words is about all you really need to know about me, unless you truly wish you had known -- connected -- more, in which case, you are welcome to contact me. Some of the many 'blanks' not covered here can be filled in by my LinkedIn page: search for rdavidhenze. To a few of you it will be glaringly apparent that much is missing from both that and this account, and you will understand why: oaths are a serious matter. For everyone else, it may answer the question "where on earth did he go?" The short version is 'everywhere.' The 'why' is (as my kids say) "complicated." The then picture is from the 1971 Annual, taken in English V class taught by Mr. Bruce Floyd's, a singularly influential person in my life who, then, made an incredible difference in my life and still does: teachers represent the very best of humanity! In the 'now' picture, set in front of the crossed swords memorial in Iraq, I may appear overweight, but I've stayed fit and weigh only 7 pounds more that I did in High School ... beneath that shirt is a bullet proof vest and vital organ 'plate', among a few other "necessary" items for that period of OIF. Fast forward a decade, and I'm looking at semi-retirement from my profession in the intelligence community. I'm excited about the projects I'm already planning and look forward to engaging in more volunteer service here in the US and abroad where my skill may make a difference. For any who wish to join me in this, rdhenze at icloud. Com. will be a working email address as long as Apple, Incorporated continues to exist. Mobile phone is the same seven oh three seven 25 eighty one sixty nine. If I don't answer, leave a message. My phone and I are separated for long stretches of the day and frequently useless when I'm on travel. Update: Since last I wrote, My oldest daughter married and gave birth to our first grandson. My youngest daughter married. And my son became engaged. The cycle of life continues to manifest. May Godspeed and bless you as He has me, even when I didn't deserve it. Kind regards, David
