Ralph's Story

I just sent in my 1965 yearbook so everyone could have a good laugh and regain some memories from the past. I hope everyone enjoys it. Here's what has happened to me lately: My wife of 10 years passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 59. She put up a brave fight and at one point was winning against a terrible disease. A warning to those with type 2 diabetes, the risk of this cancer is particularly higher for those with type 2 diabetes. It is difficult to catch in it's early stages and it spreads agressively. Kat had a pet scan and showed nothing. 5 weeks later another pet scan showed liver and spleen tumors and still no pancreas involvement. Be careful, not fearful! I retired in June from the City of Cleveland in order to care for Kat, but she lost her fight on June 28th 2011. She was in home hospice (of the Western Reserve) when she passed with all her loved ones present. H of the W R did a wonderful job of caring for her and kept her pain free until the end. My thanks go out to them! Getting adjusted to being alone is hard but I'm managing. The hardest part is meeting new people. I am b...Expand for more
y nature the ultimate introvert. My wife was just the opposite and so what friends I have are primarily her friends. I also inherited her 2 dogs , one of them a stray with 3 legs, and a rescued cat. They pretty much keep me a prisoner in this house, but I'm trying to change that gradually. I have a 40 ft. camper in Ravenna, and I try to get out there at least every other week. We both have friends there and they are very supportive. As soon as I get my retirement income straight (that's been rough too since I only had 3 weeks to get all the paperwork done), I hope to purchase a small pontoon boat in order to fish the many inland lakes near the campground. West Branch reservoir is only about 15 min away, and there are many other small lakes in that general area. I never moved too far from where I grew up (W. 87th St) and now live in the Kamms Corners neighborhood. I had planned to move to Florida until my wife became ill, and may still do that, at least for the winter months since I hate winter more and more with each passing year! That's about it. Go Cowboys, Go Browns, Go Tribe and GO the Ohio State Buckeyes!!!
