Ralph E.'s Story
Hi,
I'm Ralph Greene, a 1959 graduate of New Stanton. Also a graduate of Edward Waters College '63. Taught English in Sanford Florida for 2 years and returned to Jacksonville to teach English at Stanton. Many of the old faculty were still there: Mrs. Currie, Mrs. Timberlake, Mrs. Harris, Coach Montgomery, Mr. McFarlin, and so many more. Married Pequena Geiger '60. We had one son, Ralph Jr. who is a writer in Hollywood. We were divorced after 4 years and remained close friends until her death in 1999.
In the early 70's I decided to get a degree in Theatre from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois. After receiving a Master's degree in theatre, I enrolled in the Ph.D. program and completed the course work. In the meantime I was a part of the Black American Studies faculty at SIU ...Expand for more
Carbondale, teaching theatre courses, directing plays and touring the college circuit with the Kutana Players (a black student theater company I founded with Johnny Lee Davenport).
In 1974 Miss Katherine Dunham (renowned dancer, choreographer, director) invited me to join the faculty of the Performing Arts Training Center at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, Illinois where I remained for 21 years. The last 12 years I spent as the director of the center after Miss Dunham retired. Left the University along with my second wife Bonnie in 1996. Since that time Bonnie and I have been running our own professional theatre company in St. Louis, Missouri. If you would like more information about the theatre company google Unity Theatre Ensemble.
