Randolph's Story
Life
After graduation, I went to Millikin for one year as a music major, then messed around for 10 years working at Bachrach's, did 2 years in the army 68-70, traveled with a band all over the U.S. for 2 years, and spent 4 years with J.C. Penney Co. I finally decided I should grow up at age 27 and went back to school to be a dentist. Graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1975 and U of M Dental School in 1978. Started my dental practice in 1979 in Decatur and have been here since. My current wife, Mary, is the one I should have married years ago because she is a real keeper. I have a son, Jason who will soon be 29 and has been a police officer for 4 years here in Decatur. He recently gave me my first grandchild, a boy named William Randolph (Will!) It is probably no surprise to know that I am in my 40th year of playing in Rock and Roll bands. Three years ago I had the thrill of putting our original group, "Chuck Givens and the Q...Expand for more
uintones", together for a reunion concert at the Decatur Celebration street festival for a crowd of several thousand. One year later, Chuck Givens died from prostate cancer. I now play with a group called "Rock of Ages". We are all a bunch of old guys still playing 50's, 60's, and 70's RnR. We have been together for a little over 3 years and surprisingly have become the hottest group in central Illinois. Go figure. When you needed to make a living out of music in the early years, you couldn't and now that we all have "real jobs" and just do this for fun a couple times a month we are getting $1500 per night for the group. That's the way it always is I guess. My dream is to have our group play for our upcoming 40th reunion. What a blast that would be. Mary and I split our time between Decatur and our condo in Naples, Florida where we hope to retire in a few short years. Life has been good to us and I thank God every day for our blessings.
