Randy's Story
Life
My Life Since High-School:
1982 - Begin Computer Science major at UVic.
1983 - More school, partying, drinking, and rockin' on guitar.
1984 - First CSc. co-op workterm in Vancouver, first apartment.
1985 - Back in Victoria, yet more school, partying, drinking, and rockin' on guitar.
1986 - Summer workterm at IBM in Toronto - what a gas!
1987 - More school and back for a second workterm at IBM in Toronto in the summer.
1988 - Graduate with Bachelor's degree - Move to Toronto for permanent IBM job. Yeah!
1989 - Working at IBM and spending money faster than I get it :-(
1990 - Tired of Toronto - back to Victoria to work at Myra Systems Corp.
1991 - Reunite the old rock band. Swap my middle and last names!
1992 - Move to Vancouver around Xmas to take job at Rydex Corp. Live in Richmond.
1993 - Travel all over for business - New York, Philly, Boston, Dallas, London, Greece.
1994 - Travel is fun, but job sucks. Broke and in debt! Contract for a while then join Sun.
1995 - Back to Victoria with Sun Microsystems and open local sales office. Marry Paula!
1996 - Athena is born! Buy first house. Canadian taxes suck. Flee to United States.
1997 - Hunter i...Expand for more
s born! Join startup company DataChannel as employee #12. Loving Seattle!
1998 - Coding software. Raising kids. Saving and Investing. Reading. Apartment is too small!
1999 - Disparaging Microsoft at every opportunity. Buy house in Redmond. Linux!
2000 - Loving life and hoping for the big DataChannel IPO. Dotcom crash.
2001 - Quit my job at DataChannel to join eCash Technologies. Out of the frying pan and into...?
2002 - ...the fire! eCash crashes and burns - assets and a few employees, including myself, picked up by Infospace. Trying to start a rock band again. Orion born in December!
2003 - My brother Rod is murdered and I am laid off Infospace the week after. Not a good year. Start contract at Areva. New band "Nuclear Suitcase" is rockin' and playing around Seattle.
2004 - Fourth child, Theron, is born in March. Has Down Syndrome and heart defect, spend most of year in hospital. Another not so great year.
2005 - Theron has had his heart operation and is progressing well. Fulltime employment at Areva. Band is history due to members moving out of town. Not so much time in the hospital. A good year overall!
2006 - Off to a great start! Looking forward to the next boom...
