Randy's Story
After graduating from JFK, I went to UB (with Roy and Wil Ferch) and we all graduated in 1975 with BS, Mechanical Engineering. I landed a job with a manufacturing company in Niagara Falls as a process engineer. I married in 1978, to a JFK alumni. We lived in Cheektowaga (renting), then in 2 different houses in N. Tonawanda. In 1980 my wife and I were in a major car accident. My wife was severely injured - broke her neck (2nd vertebrae), pelvis, etc). I was in coma for 3 days, and have no memory of the accident to this day. Thank the Lord that we survived, and although it took a long time and a lot of pain, my wife improved without surgery. In about 1984, I started night school for 5 years at UB School of Management and obtained an MBA. During that period, we had a girl (Rebecca, 1985) and a boy (Adam, 1987). ks after Adam was born. I remained at the same company, progressing through a variety of techical/professional and management positions. In 1996, I was asked to relocate to company headquarters in Charlotte, which we did. My wife's parents died within about 2 years of that (cancer). We stayed there one year, then in 1997 had the opportunity to switch business functions and took it, which required us moving to a small town about 80 miles northwest of Charlotte. We became grandparents in 2007 (a boy), celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary in 2008, and in June 2009 celebrated my 34th work anniversary at my original company. Obviously, I like the company, people, career, benefits, etc. as exemplified by my longevity there. Who knows what's next, but we are happy, and that's the most important thing.
UPDATE - Retired from company October 2017 after 42+ years with my company.
