Raymond's Story

After graduating St. Angela I went to Fenwick where I met people whose parents had gone to college, where I tried forensics and cross country and met my first Rhodes Scholar finalist, Rex Ball, who respected us as students and opened up whole new dimensions of how learning can occur. There I struggled with Father McGrath in Geometry and did stupendously with Father McGrath in algebra.I then surprised Father Kolzow with my National Merit score and then to Reed College where I studied political science, played soccer, interned in county government, and was introduced to airplane rides, atheists, the counter culture, and serious academics. man inspired and nurtured me as did many of my classmates. Vicor sent me to see his Northwestern buddy, Dave Minar, and a bunch of other colleagues including Dawn Clark Netsch and Ted Lowi. Sam Gove helped me get selected as an intern in the Illinois Bureau of the Budget where I met my first Harvard Business School graduates. Then Northwestern, the legislature, City Comptroller, and public finance banker and one time successful candidate for public office. Along the way came love and baby carriages with houses in Petersburg, Chicago, Hinsdale, Chicago, Western Springs, and Elmhurst. Lots of soccer coaching and skiing Taos in Jean Mayer's spray.
