Rebecca's Story
School
If anyone knows where Barbara Browe is, please contact me? I remember the nights we girls drove to Belle Isle and would park by the radar installation and flirt with the servicemen and the many trips through the parking lot of the drive in (can't remember the name of it anymore). I went to the 50th class reunion and I'm glad. It was great seeing Judy Provance again and Jerry Barnes, Sonia Wilderson, Rodney Rowland and others. I really thought Ralph Troop was cute (sorry to learn that Ralph has passed) and also Robert Beiber (wish I could contact him also). But since I was already taken by the guy I married a year after graduation, I didn't date anyone in high school. That marriage lasted 39 1/2 years. WHAT IS THE WILDEST THING I EVER DID AT SCHOOL? Hmmm . . . well I was known to smoke in the P.E. locker room from time to time. I often cut first hour classes to hang out at the local party store drinking orange crush. It was always fun to sneak back into school without getting caught.
College
I attended three different colleges over a period of some fifteen years or so. I started at Wayne County Community College just taking art classes. Transferred to Itawamba Jr. College in Fulton, MS and was majoring in journalism but switched to special education. I then transferred to McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA and finished my BA in education; Master's; Master's plus 30...Expand for more
in education, and counselor's certification. For a while there I felt like a professional student.
Workplace
Those who remember me are going to find this hard to believe.
I am an elementary school counselor and have worked in this field for the past 20 years. Before that I worked as a special education teacher for 7 years. And before that I worked for a small town weekly newspaper setting ads and headlines, proof reading copy, and a host of other jobs. I also worked as a secretary and girl Friday right out of high school for a company located in downtown Detroit. AND I'm still working. Now I'm supporting my daughter and her two kids. I hope I get to retire the year I turn 70! Well looks like retirement isn't going to happen for a few years. Putting that granddaughter through college.
I've lived in Detroit (obviously), Harbor Beach and Bay City, MI, Aberdeen, MS, and Lake Charles, LA. I love the south! My hubby's job took us to these places.
Some of you may remember my husband. We married a year after graduating. John Pack lived until December 27, 1999. We had two kids, a son and daughter, and we have four grandchildren. The last grandchild was born a month after he died and is named for his grandfather.
WOW, it has been cold in Louisiana this year and I think it is because the SAINTS won the super bowl! LOL We always said HELL would freeze over if the Saints won and it did!
