Rebecca's Story
Well, you all know I didn't graduate with you. I wish I had. I wish life had been different. I wish when Lindsay and Becky dumped me as friends because I started smoking, I wish I would've stuck it out. People don't know how sad and lonely my life was.
Looking back, having my parents kick me out when I was, what?--14? *sigh* Such is life. I moved in with my real dad--he didn't give two hoots about me either and life went on. I got married the first time when I was 16--again, my parents were really looking out for me, eh? I did get a beautiful daughter out of that one. Husband was a loser, in jail more than not, so I left him when I was 18. I worked full-time, sometimes 3 jobs (1 full and two part-time) to make a life for my daughter and I. Nothing special, but I worked really hard with my little bit of an education and was a fast-food manger in 3 years. I know, whoopie, fast food, but for me, that was amazing! I made decent money. I even worked in an upolstery company making really good money when I was 21. $18 an hour at 21 isn't all that bad.
Still, good money spends crazy fast when mostly I was just working to support the other losers in my life. Funny I never saw it like that-at least not wh...Expand for more
ile I was doing it. I always thought they were my friends. It took a long while, but eventually, I came to the realization I was being used.
I got mixed up with a lot of bad things and people and thought my life could never be more than a big mess. The drugs I did, may have kept my weight down, but they never brought my spirits up. (I haven't smoked even a cigarette in 7 years!)
It's amazing how a person's life can be turned around.
Eventually, I met my knight in shining armor and married him. He was in rough shape when I met him--his wife had left him some months prior. He lived with friends and worked out of his friends garage building cabinets.
Fast-forward 10 years---we've been married for 8 yrs. (as of 2010) and we have added a son to our family. We own a successful cabinetmaking shop on Milwaukee's east side. Life is good.
I became a Christian 8 years ago, am very faithful in my church and even homeschool my kids! Who would've thought?!
Maybe I'll add to the story as I have time. All my friends say I need to write a book! I have plenty of stories to tell--and you all probably know how much I like to talk...my first detention--my first 3 detentions--in first grade were for talking in class! ;)
