Rebecca's Story
Life
Quite a journey since the end of high school ... 8 years of college, two marriages, 8 moves, a divorce, and three states later. Where to begin?!?!? Life has been interesting ... I am a recently re-married, veterinarian enjoying my blossoming career amidst the country backroads of Powhatan, VA. My ex-husband, James Staunton, and I moved to Richmond, VA, after my graduation from veterinary college, only to move two months later to Vero Beach, FL. The weather was unforgiving, and after taking 2 hurricane eyewalls, living off Army meals-ready-to-eat and bottled water, as well as living without electricity for 21 out of 30 days in 85 degree heat, VA looked very inviting. My ex-husband and I returned to the Mid-Atlantic in October 2004. I recently married my high school sweetheart, and so I hold fast here in Virginia pursing my career and family.
School
If any one knows how to contact Mr. Reitz, your help would be much appreciated. He was one of the most influential persons in my life ... frustrating as he was in AP Biology :S
College
After graduation from EHS, I took my stand in the halls of Salisbury State University. I crossed paths with a couple EHS alumni ... Brandy Bradley, Jason Baynard, ... and have since parted from those grounds.
My undergraduate career came to a close and new threat approached ... veterinary college. I attended the VA-MD Regional College of Veterinary M...Expand for more
edicine on the campus of VA Tech, and graduated in May 2004.
One day I may again walk the halls in pursuit of a Master's degree or Ph. D. ... but a DVM will do for now :)
Workplace
Long journey from the bottom of the heap to the top of the world ... but it can be done.
My work starting at the lowest of the low ... scooping poop. I obtained a job as kennel asst/veterinary asst/office help at Denton Animal Hospital, in Denton, MD. Since that was not enough, along with full-time classes at SSU and a 1-hour commute each way, I decided to pick up a second job as cashier/customer service associate at Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse, in Easton, MD. The job description didn't change too much, but at least the scenery did ... I quit both jobs and took a position as kennel manager at Tuckahoe Veterinary Hospital in Richmond, VA, for the summer of 2002. After graduation, I was finally able to pull myself from the muck and stand tall as Veterinarian at Animal Wellness Center in Vero Beach, FL. Following the record 4 hurricanes hitting Florida, I nestled back into VA as Veterinarian at Tuckahoe Veterinary Hospital in October 2004.
I recently left my full-time associate veterinarian position at Tuckahoe, a small animal private practice, for a position at Powhatan Animal Hospital, Powhatan, VA. I care for medical, emergency, and surgical patients on a daily basis ... and love every moment.
