Rebel's Story
Since graduating from Asheville High in 1976, I went on to college at UNC-Chapel Hill where I earned a B.A. in Economics in 1981 followed by a PhD in Finance in 1988. After that, I went to work in a series of bank regulatory agencies in Washington, including the Federal Home Loan Bank Board and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. In 1999, I returned to academia as a Professor of Finance but in a very far-away place: Auckland, New Zealand. I taught at the University of Auckland for two years before moving on the the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, where I taught for two more years. In 2002, I retur...Expand for more
ned to the U.S., moving to Chicago where I teach at DePaul University. I remain in that position today. Drawing upon my regulatory experience, I also do consulting work for the International Monetary Fund, the United Nations and World Bank. This work has taken me all of the world, including to such out-of-the-way places as Sana'a, Yemen; Ramallah, Palestine; Nairobi, Kenya; and Kuala Lumper, Malaysia; as well as to less exotic places including Moscow, Russia; Shanghai, China; Manila, Phillipines; and Beirut, Lebanon.
