More about Reid:"Living life to its fullest, can you ever really do it enough?
In a nut shell, I couldnât be happier! Iâm married to a wonderful girl that I met back in 1981. We have now been married for 31 years. I have 2 incredible daughters that I am very proud of.
Often, I have been self employed throughout the years which allowed me to possess the most valuable thing I could ever imagine having, the freedom to drive my kids to school every day for the first 5 or 6 years of their academic lives, and to be there to watch them grow up. Thatâs a lot of McDonalds pancakes on the way to school every morning. Our modest business successâ have also allowed Karen the freedom to not have to work while the kids were young, so she could tend to the most important things in our lives, personally raising the kids, Girl Scouts, dance, cheer leading, singing lessons, plays, volunteering at the schools, etc.
I am in a somewhat conservative mode right now, Iâm not taking a lot of chances these days, I have a great job that I truly appreciate, that has allowed us to let Karen go back to Oakland University to get her teaching degree. She graduated in December of â09 and is now teaching little 2nd grade rugrats on a daily basis.
Health wise, I dodged a bullet in 2010. Two days before Christmas in â09 I was diagnosed with neck cancer. It was st...Expand for more
age 4 Squamous Cell Carcinoma and it spread to my lymph nodes. I went through a horrific regiment of Chemo and Radiation in early 2010, but made it through. Toward the end of my treatments, my doctors always told me âyou look so goodâ, they always had this surprised look on their face like I shouldnât look good. I can laugh at that now, but that always concerned me. Every day means something to me right now. As I sit here on a Sunday morning, drinking a cup of coffee and jotting these notes down I consider myself the luckiest and happiest person on the face of the earth.
My kids are great and I am very proud of both of them. They both love music. Both of them are in college. Taylor played the lead (Belle) in her high school production of Beauty and The Beast her senior year. She won the role the day I started my chemo and radiation treatments. Looking forward to seeing her on that stage helped carry me through that unimaginable time. She was incredible. Syd is a music major at Oakland University and just recently performed with The Rolling Stones at their Comerica Park concert.
My hobbies and interests throughout the years have been photography, computers, mountain biking, tent camping, wood working, traveling and just being involved with my family. I donât tend to put things off anymore, and I donât have many fears. Since my cancer treatments, I finished my basement, built my deck, helped with construction for the school plays and got involved in more projects than I can remember.
Life is good! And I intend on sticking around. Like many people who have gone through what I have gone through, I find I no longer have a fear of dying, I simply have a fear of not living!".
