Rena's Story
I moved all over southwest Missouri as a child, ending up in Stockton for several years (5th through 9th grades). I moved from Stockton to Springfield, for my Sophomore year in High School (due to my parent's divorce). Then I moved to Spokane, WA, where I graduated from High School. I went to one year of college on a scholarship. (I graduated High School number 14th in a class of 349). So I tended to be a nobody, brainy type, always working from age 12 through my High School years. I worked for the U.S. Bureau of Mines for 7 years, and then moved back to be near family in the Springfield, MO area. I spent a few years working in offices, including managing an office for PRIME, Inc., but feeling mentally 'stagnant' I began night college. Circumstances finally allowed me to return to college full-time 1991. I quickly finished my B.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders, and continued to complete my M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology by 1995. I moved back to Washington state, to be near my brothers, and worked in a Nursing Home, initially. After nine months, I chose to move into the public school system. ved to be near him in central Washington. I worked in the Rehab setting, and then back to public schools. I moved to New Mexico for a few years, to follow my husband's work, as an electrical engineer/plant engineer for DFA. We moved back to Missouri in 2001, and I worked in public schools again along with home health, in the 0-3 year old population. I have also worked in sub-acute hospitals, and long-term care facilities as prn (on-call). I love working with all ages, but enjoy working with the elementary ages the best. I moved to Hoover, Alabama (south of Birmingham), again, to follow my husband's work. I worked in the middle school, and I enjoyed every minute! I have one step-son, whom lives in Washington state, and has a young daughter. He then remarried, adopted her 2 sons and added 2 more daughters, leaving us with 5 grandchildren total. I have had no children of my own, so we moved from Alabama to Washington to be near our grandkids. I worked as a Teletherapist from home & loved it, until I retired on SS disability. I have added my story to re-connect with people I have known in the past. I would love to hear from any of you!
