Renee's Story
After high school I joined the Air National Guard in Peoria from 1985 - 1999, working as an Aircraft Electrician and Avionics Lab Specialist. Lots of great people there, and lots of fun.
I worked for a year and a half in a factory in Peoria while going to ICC for electronics. Factory life was horrid, so I moved to Springfield, IL, to work at Garrett Aviation Services. For 12+ years I worked on corporate business aircraft at Garrett in Springfield and military aircraft at the ANG in Peoria. I finished my Associates Degree at the junior college in Springfield in 1995.
I also got married while working at Garrett, and for several years had two step-children in Michigan and a wonderful "family-in-law".
2001 wasn't kind to anyone, and that Spring I was getting divorced and moving to Kansas. After 911 it was a bad time to be looking for work in aviation anywhere, so I just went to ...Expand for more
school for a while at Univ of Kansas. (State university really is something you should do when you are in your 20's not your mid 30's!)
After I started running out of money I thought I had better get back to work. A friend of mine from Garrett was the Director of Maintenance for another corporate flight operation in Kansas City, and he introduced me to my boss at Sprint Flight Operations.
The best part was right after that a long lost love looked me up in 2002 and shazam! The long distance relationship was tough, and he moved out to Kansas that next spring. Living in Missouri now, north of KC.
I have been working at Sprint as Sr. Aircraft Technician since 2002. Corporate aviation is a unique career, challenging and rewarding, but it's very, very demanding most of your time.
